The Orange Knowledge Program (OKP) makes scholarships to mid-career professionals from selected developing countries for short courses (duration 2 weeks to 12 months) and master’s programs (duration 12-24 months). Eligible countries as well as eligible courses are listed in the announcement. BirdLife International — Conservation of Natural Grasslands
The BirdLife in the Americas seeks proposals for the conservation and research of natural grasslands and their birds in the region. The “Small Grants for Grassland Conservation” are aimed at individuals working or conducting research in grassland conservation. The prioritized countries for this call are Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Paraguay, and Uruguay. Applicants may request up to US$12 thousand in funding for their project. People and Conservation Learning Group — Small Grants for Great Ape Conservation
The People and Conservation Learning Group (PCLG) supports collaboration and learning between conservation, development and rights focused organizations in three great ape range states. Applicants will be able to apply for grants up to US$7,500 to support people and great ape conservation in three great ape range states: Cameroon, Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda. U.S. Department of State — Combating Wildlife Trafficking through Outreach and Awareness
The U.S. Government announces an open competition for organizations interested in submitting applications for projects that counter trafficking of endangered and protected species for use in traditional medicine globally. The U.S. Government will mobilize resources, and strengthen operational capacity to combat nature crimes, including wildlife and timber trafficking. The program goal is to engage civil society and/or local NGOs in the prevention of trafficking of endangered and protected species. Funding ranges from US$500 thousand to US$1 million. U.S. Government — Environmental Defenders Capacity Building and Small Grants
The U.S. Government seeks to reduce violence against environmental defenders and protect and advance environmental defenders’ human rights. Applicants must be non-governmental organizations with a track record of working with threatened grassroots environmental defenders. Priority countries include Brazil, Colombia, DRC, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Peru, Philippines, and Vietnam. All projects should aim to have impact that leads to measurable reductions in threats and violence against grassroots organizations. The estimated total program funding is US$4.2 million. UNESCO — Sultan Qaboos Prize for Environmental Preservation
The UNESCO Sultan Qaboos Prize for Environmental Preservation recognizes outstanding contributions by individuals, groups of individuals, institutes, or organizations in the management or preservation of the environment. This refers to contributions in environmental and natural resources research; environmental education and training; environmental awareness; and activities to establish and manage protected areas such as biosphere reserves and natural World Heritage sites. Nominations for the Prize can be made by UNESCO member states and by international organizations, or by NGOs which have consultative status with UNESCO. U.S. Department of State — Countering Wildlife Trafficking in Latin America
The U.S. Department of State seeks to strengthen the capacity of wildlife institutions and actors in Latin America. The call seeks to enhance law enforcement and justice sector efforts to counter wildlife trafficking, ultimately helping to disrupt wildlife trafficking operations, and removing opportunities for criminal organizations to profit from illicit proceeds derived from the wildlife trade. Earth Journalism Network — Media Workshop on Natural Resource Governance
The Earth Journalism Network (EJN) hosts a media workshop with the aim to improve journalists’ knowledge and reporting skills to tell impactful and in-depth stories about natural resources governance in the Mekong region. The three-day workshop will be held in English in early July, at a venue in Thailand. Following the training, participants will be invited to pitch story ideas. EJN will award 16 grants of US$1,500 each to journalists to produce their proposed stories.
