The Terra Viva Grants Directory develops and manages information about grants for agriculture, energy, environment, and natural resources in the world's developing countries.

OPEC Fund for International Development — Grants

The OPEC Fund provides financial assistance to developing countries, particularly low-income countries, in support of their economic and social development efforts. OPEC will consider requests for (i) grants for country-specific activities and projects; (ii) grants for special development initiatives of global or regional scope; and (iii) emergency aid. In the past, the OPEC Fund has financed projects in agriculture, energy, health, transportation, and water and sanitation sectors. The amount of the contribution will vary according to the scope and the nature of the proposed activity. However, except for emergency aid and small grants in amounts of up to US$100 thousand, OPEC’s contribution should not exceed 50% of the total cost. Eligible partners are any government or non-government entity, including co-financing partners, private sector entities, research entities, UN agencies, and international NGOs. There is no deadline. HudsonAlpha — AgTech Accelerator

The HudsonAlpha AgTech Accelerator connects cutting-edge, agriculture technology startups to the coaching, capital, and connections they need to build and grow their businesses. Applications are welcome from startups anywhere in the world and innovating in any area of agriculture. Each startup receives a cash investment of US$100 thousand, office space (in Huntsville, USA), and access to a global network of investors. The application deadline is 23 February 2025. West African Research Association — Residency Fellowship

The West African Research Association, (WARA) offers Residencies for WARA member institutions to host a West African Scholar on their campus. Each residency will last 4-8 weeks. WARA will pay the round-trip travel costs of the selected scholar as well as a stipend of US$3500 to help cover meals and local transportation costs. Homeworld Collective — Biotech in Greenhouse Gas Removal

Homeworld Collective invites applications for its 2025 Garden Grants program, aimed at funding early-stage projects that integrate biotechnology with greenhouse gas removal strategies. Grants range from US$50 thousand to US$150 thousand. Anyone at a university or non-profit institution can apply. Homeworld Collective encourages students and postdocs to be the lead applicants. Dory Foundation — Grants for Early Stage Non-Profit Work

The Dory Foundation supports promising, early-stage non-profit work with grants between US$10 thousand and US$250 thousand. There are no thematic restrictions, however, projects should respond to the question: “How can we keep life meaningful and fulfilling in a world where work is automated with AI”. United Nations Development Program — Equator Prize 2025

The Equator Prize 2025 recognizes innovative initiatives that showcase how action on nature, led by Indigenous Peoples and local communities, can provide effective climate solutions, and demonstrate effective pathways to transform the global systems for people and Planet. Nominated projects may focus on solutions for sustainable food systems, restoration of ecosystems that help communities adapt to the impacts of climate change, or protection of terrestrial or marine ecosystems, biodiversity, and wildlife. The nominated initiative must have been in existence for at least three years. Each winner will receive US$10 thousand. Nominations must be submitted by 23 February 2025. Equator Prize

West African Research Association — Pre-doctoral Fellowship

The West African Research Association, (WARA) offers pre-doctoral fellowships. The fellowship is for 2 to 3 months of research in West Africa during summer. This competition is open to U.S. citizens who are currently enrolled in graduate programs at institutions of higher education in the United States. The West African Research Association, (WARA) offers postdoctoral fellowships. The fellowship is for 2 to 3 months of research in West Africa during summer. This competition is open to U.S. citizens holding a Ph.D. Each fellowship will provide round-trip travel to a West African country and a stipend of up to US$3,500. University of Bonn — SDG Fellowships

The University of Bonn invites international postdoctoral fellows for a joint research project on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The scientists will research and teach together with a professor from the University of Bonn for one or two semesters. The university seeks collaborations with universities and research institutes in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. Post-doctoral researchers invited by a professor of the University of Bonn for a joint research project are eligible. The funding can cover a travel allowance, a scholarship of €3 thousand per month, and a research expense allowance of up to €500 per month. European Commission — Marie Curie Postdoctoral Fellowships 2025

The Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowships provide opportunities to acquire and transfer new knowledge and to work on research in a European context or outside Europe. The scheme particularly supports the return and re-integration of researchers from outside Europe who have previously worked there. It also develops or helps to re-start the careers of individual researchers that show great potential, considering their experience. Applicants in the EU; their overseas territories; countries associated with Horizon 2020; and most developing countries are eligible for consideration.
