European Space Agency — Living Planet Fellowship 2018

The European Space Agency (ESA) invites young researchers to submit research proposals for the Living Planet Fellowship 2018. Eligible research areas are (1) Advancing Novel Methods and Techniques; and (2) Advancing Earth System Science. ESA will support up to 10 Post-Doctoral researchers to carry out a research project at a Host Institution in an eligible ESA Member State. Alcoa Foundation — Location Grants

The Alcoa Foundation makes signature grants and location grants. Location grants serve communities around the world where Alcoa has production facilities or administrative offices. Grant making addresses the Foundation’s two key focus areas (i.e., climate change and biodiversity), in addition to local community priorities. Interested organizations make their grant requests through their local Alcoa facility. The Foundation provides a link to Alcoa’s locations worldwide including in Brazil, Guinea, Saudi Arabia, and Suriname. Link

UK Natural Environment Research Council — Understanding Risk Forum 2018

Young professionals with passion for risk communication are invited to apply for the Pressure Cooker event on Risk Communication at the 2018 Understanding Risk Forum in Mexico City, 14-18 May 2018. Up to 20 professionals and students from all around the world will test their innovative, creative, scientific and technological skills to co-develop risk communication solutions to real world problems facing local decision makers. Financial support for travel, accommodation and subsistence is available for a limited number of applicants. Applications have to be submitted before 26 January 2018. More about the event

Organization for Tropical Studies — Research Fellowship Program 2018

The OTS manages a research fellowship program to support field research in tropical biology and related fields. The program offers three types of awards: pilot awards for exploratory research; thesis research fellowships; and ECTS-GS fellowships. Most awards are restricted to three OTS field stations in Costa Rica. Exceptions are one annual fellowship for research at the Cocha Cashu field station in Peru, and the Hovore-Horn Entomology awards in any Latin American country. Proposals may be submitted in English or Spanish. The application deadlines are 01 March and 01 October each year. Link

Inter-Research Science Center — Ecology Prizes 2018

The International Ecology Institute in Germany annually selects top performers worldwide in the field of ecology for the Ecology Institute Prize and the IRPE Prize. The winner of the Ecology Institute Prize will be awarded €6 thousand; the winner of the IRPE Prize will receive €3 thousand. Nominations are invited from research ecologists worldwide. National Geographic Society — Science Communication

The National Geographic Society seeks proposals addressing environmental issues by communicating science. The NGS seeks proposals from around the world that advance the science of nature communication by systematically testing visual communication and education methods. The call is intended for visual artists, photographers, and videographers who aim to more effectively create and use images or video to overcome apathy towards species and ecosystems. National Geographic Society — Democratizing Science

The National Geographic Society seeks proposals from around the world that will engage learners and avocational researchers in citizen science activities to address real world problems, and lead to actions in science and conservation. Proposed projects should explore how digital tools like cameras, drones, live streaming services, and digital imagery might be transformed into group actions. National Geographic Society — Conservation Technologies

The National Geographic Society seeks proposals from around the world that will advance innovative conservation technologies to explore, visualize, and protect the planet. Priority will be given to projects that use multi-sensor monitoring systems, advance surveillance/alarm systems for protected areas, or develop new tools and capabilities needed to generate data. Fauna & Flora International — Global Trees Campaign 2018

Fauna & Flora International, in partnership with the Conservation Leadership Program, sponsor the Global Trees Campaign to support master’s research focused on tree species conservation. Research should focus on in situ conservation of a threatened tree species, ideally on IUCN’s Red List, and external to the countries of the OECD. Grants are up to £1 thousand. U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service — Africa Program 2018

The program “Wildlife Without Borders” includes a regional component for Central Africa. Funding in 2018 will focus on projects that impact wildlife populations in the following countries: Burundi, Cameroon, Chad, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Republic of Congo, Rwanda, and São Tomé and Príncipe. The announcement defines the priority themes. Applications are open to qualified individuals; multi-national secretariats; institutions of higher education; and nonprofit NGOs.
