The Commonwealth Youth Awards for Excellence in Development Work recognize individuals ages 15 to 29 who lead innovative development projects in themes that include agriculture, small enterprise, skills training, climate change, environmental protection, sustainable livelihoods, and poverty reduction. The program selects regional winners from each of Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, and the Pacific. Winners are awarded grants of up to a total of £5 thousand in total to advance their projects. East-West Center — Asia Pacific Leadership Program 2025
The Asia Pacific Leadership Program (APLP) invites individuals with a demonstrated commitment to promoting peace and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region to apply for a 9-month program of leadership training and professional development on emerging issues. Inter-disciplinary interests at the East-West Center include climate change, land use, water and energy demands, etc., — among other social and environmental themes. Efico Foundation — Support for Coffee Producers
EFICO Foundation supports coffee farmers and their families through training and education programs, sustainable income increase, resilience to climate change, infrastructure support, and natural resource protection. About every 3 years, the Foundation organizes a project initiation round and funds projects that aim to improve the living conditions of coffee producers and their communities. Commonwealth Secretariat — Youth Essay Award
The Commonwealth Secretariat launches the “Think Trade, Think Green: Commonwealth Innovative Youth Essay Award Competition.” This competition invites young researchers and students aged 18-29 to explore the relationship between trade and climate change and propose how trade policy can be part of the solution to the climate crisis. The first prize is £1,000, the second and third prizes are £500 each. Applicants must be Commonwealth nationals to participate in this competition. The submission deadline is 21 August 2024. Australian Center for International Agricultural Research — Pacific Agriculture Scholarships
The Australian Center for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) supports postgraduate research studies by providing scholarships in agriculture and fisheries at the University of the South Pacific and Fiji National University. Students undertake applied agricultural research at selected Pacific universities to build an agricultural innovation system and contribute to the agricultural research capacity of the student, the university, and the country of origin. Applicants must be citizens of and currently reside in Fiji, Kiribati, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, or Vanuatu. The closing date for submissions is 23 October 2024. NDN Collective — Community Self-Determination
The Community Self-Determination grant program invests in the self-determination of Indigenous people working in their community. Applicants are encouraged to describe their community self-determination efforts within one of the following strategic focus areas that are best suited for their intentions and goals (e.g., climate justice work, clean energy initiatives, access to clean water, etc.). Grants of US$40 thousand per year, with a commitment of two years. The Live Your Dream Awards offers cash awards of US$1 thousand to US$10 thousand to help women who are the sole financial providers for their families cover tuition costs, purchase books, get transportation, or find reliable childcare. East-West Center — South Pacific Scholarship Program
The United States–South Pacific Scholarship Program provides opportunities for university studies (master’s and bachelor’s degrees) at the University of Hawai‘i in fields that are relevant to the development needs of Pacific island countries. Priority areas of study include agriculture, environmental studies, and many others. Candidates from the following countries, who meet specific selection criteria, are eligible to apply: Cook Islands, Fiji, Kiribati, Nauru, Niue, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu. U.S. National Fish and Wildlife Foundation — Seabird Conservation Program 2024
The U.S. National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) invites applications to improve populations of focal Pacific seabirds through actions that increase survival and reproduction. Proposed projects may address the management of non-native, invasive animals; restoration of nesting grounds and habitat; research and monitoring activities to address conservation needs; or activities that reduce bycatch.
