The Southeast Asian Regional Centre for Tropical Biology (SEAMO BIOTROP) aims to increase the knowledge and skills of ASEAN professionals and students on a wide range of topics in tropical biology. Unless otherwise indicated, training courses are conducted at the SEAMEO BIOTROP headquarter in Bogor, Indonesia. Priority is for nationals of SEAMEO member countries, especially in the sponsored courses. The remaining BIOTROP courses and seminars for 2019 are scheduled from July through October. The 2019 ASEAN-U.S. Science Prize for Women seeks to identify and recognize ASEAN-based, early to mid-career women who are using applied sciences in the theme of the “Circular Economy”. The top two finalists will be invited to compete in a pitch competition during an ASEAN Ministerial event in Singapore in October 2019. The overall winner will receive $20 thousand. U.S. Department of State — Building Cooperation to Combat Wildlife Trafficking Between Africa and Asia
The U.S. Department of State seeks proposals to improve cooperation between governments in Africa and Asia to combat wildlife trafficking and implement joint action to dismantle the transnational networks that perpetrate these crimes. The project budget must fall between US$500 thousand and US$950 thousand. Eligible organizations include U.S. and overseas based non-profit organizations (NGOs) or educational institutions. Access Agriculture — Training for Young Agricultural Entrepreneurs
Access Agriculture invites applicants for the Young Entrepreneur Challenge Fund. Participants have the chance to propose innovative business ideas or expand their existing business, around the dissemination of agricultural videos. Selected young entrepreneurs will receive a Digisoft smart projector with an in-built computer that contains a library with over 200 training videos. Climate Tracker — 10-Month Fellowship on Climate Solutions
Climate Tracker, in partnership with the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation, seeks five young climate journalists to participate in an online mentorship on climate solutions and journalism. The fellows will receive training on how to write articles on climate change and a monthly stipend of US$150. Applicants that are between 18 and 30 years old and are living in Europe, Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, South Asia, or Asia-Pacific are eligible. To participate, applicants have to write, publish, and submit a 500+ words article (in any language) on local solutions and responses to climate change. European Commission — Promoting Inclusive Development in Fiji
The European Commission seeks to support local Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) as actors of governance and development work in the field. The objective is to increase participation of CSOs in addressing climate change through disaster risk reduction or resilience. Non-profit organizations established in Fiji or the European Union can request grants between €300 thousand and €680 thousand to implement activities that mitigate climate change. The Global Environment Facility (GEF) Small Grants Programme (SGP) invites proposals from environmental oriented organizations for community actions and initiatives that aid benefit vulnerable communities and support efforts on sustainable development. Focal areas are (1) Biodiversity Conservation; (2) Protection of Water Resources; (3) Climate Change; (4) Sustainable Forestry Management; and (5) Pollution. United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization — Workshop: Nature-Culture Linkages in Asia and the Pacific
The purpose of the Capacity Building Workshop is to contribute to develop new approaches towards integrated conservation of cultural and natural heritage. The workshop on ‘Nature-Culture Linkages in Heritage Conservation’ will take place at the University of Tsukuba, Japan (September/October 2019). This workshop is a combination of theory, practice, and a field trip where participants will get in contact with local managers and local communities. The workshop is open to 15 professionals from Asia and the Pacific region. Organizers will cover the cost of accommodation and living expenses in Japan for the selected participants. U.S. Agency for International Development — Disaster Resilience in the Pacific
The Disaster Resilience in the Compact Nations (RESILIENCE) is a five-year USAID program that aims to improve the local capacity to prepare for natural disasters. The activity will expedite delivery of emergency and reconstruction assistance in the event of natural disasters in the Federated States of Micronesia and Republic of Marshall Islands. The objective is to increased disaster management capacity of local communities and host governments. USAID intends to provide US$17 million in total funding. The YSEALI Bootcamp, organized by the U.S. Embassy in Malaysia in collaboration with Me.reka and Biji-biji Initiative, is an initiative seeking innovative solutions to local challenges across the themes social entrepreneurship, sustainable development, civic engagement, and education. Interested participants must be 18 to 35 years old and demonstrate interest, knowledge, or professional experience in at least one of the main areas. Participants will receive 3-month of intensive business training/mentorship and a few selected groups will win a project grant of RM2 thousand to kick-start and implement their solutions.
