UK Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council — Discovery Fellowships 2020

The Discovery Fellowships provide support for early-career researchers wishing to undertake independent research and gain leadership skills. Proposals can be submitted in any area of science. Awards are up to £300 thousand for three years to be used to support personal salary as well as travel and subsistence, training activities, and research consumables. Smithsonian Institution — Fellowships in Invertebrate Zoology

The Smithsonian Department of Invertebrate Zoology invites proposals for the Kenneth Jay Boss Fellowships. Eligibility extends to both US and non-US citizens currently enrolled and engaged in collections-based research in invertebrate zoology (e.g., systematics, phylogeny, biogeography, comparative morphology, species conservation). Awards consist of a stipend of US$750/week, with additional funds available for supplies (US$2,000) and relocation allowance (US$1,000). The fall application deadline is 01 September 2020. Foundation Future of the Carbon Market — Markets for Carbon Emissions

The Foundation “Future of the Carbon Market” (Stiftung Zukunft des Kohlenstoffmarktes) promotes a market-based approach at a program level to reduce carbon emissions in developing countries. The program approach relies on start-up finance generated by the sale of tradable emissions certificates, combined with national policies and incentives favorable to emissions reductions. The Foundation posts funding guidelines and application forms for programmatic Emission Reduction Initiative (Non-CDM) activities. The Technische Universität München (TUM), in partnership with edX, offers an online course on the basics of land management. Participants will learn why, when, and where sustainable land management is most needed and what the potential application fields of land management are. United Nations Foundation — Empowering Girls

The United Nations Foundation seeks passionate female change-makers from all around the world for the Girl Up Teen Advisor program. Teen Advisors receive skills-based trainings, professional development opportunities, hands-on learning, and networking opportunities. Applicants may develop projects that empower girls and women including one or more subject areas of the Terra Viva Grants Directory. Applicants who represent underrepresented backgrounds in regards to race/ethnicity, nationality, socio-economic status etc., are especially encouraged to apply. European Commission — Partnerships for Sustainable Cities

The European Commission invites concept notes for projects that address urban challenges such as water security, pollution, and climate change, among others. The call is divided into five geographical areas: Sub-Saharan Africa, Asia-Pacific, Latin America and the Caribbean, Southern and Eastern Europe, and extremely fragile countries. UK Royal Society — Grants for Scientific Meetings

The Royal Society hosts a program of scientific meetings each year with the aim to bring together scientists from around the world to present and discuss new research in all areas of science. Each meeting is organised by leaders in the field, using their expertise to ensure the key topics are covered. The Royal Society contributes to travel and expenses for the meeting and provides logistical support. Proposals are invited from any UK-based researcher. United Nations Environment Programme — Young Champions of the Earth 2020

Young Champions of the Earth supports outstanding environmental initiatives of talented people worldwide between the ages of 18 and 30. The program is a global stage to showcase technological inventions and innovative business models that improve the planet’s health. The program will select seven Young Champions of the Earth every year — one from each of Africa, Asia-Pacific, Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean, North America, and West Asia. Each winner will receive US$15 thousand in seed funding, plus various opportunities for high-profile networking and entrepreneurship training. The deadline for applications is 10 April 2020.
