European Commission — Boosting Food Production in Rwanda

The European Commission (EC) aims to promote sustainable food production of socially and environmentally inclusive agriculture value chains targeting local markets in Rwanda. Applicants may request up to €700 thousand in project funding. Eligibility extends to non-profit organizations established in the European Union or Rwanda. U.S. Mission to Uganda — Self-Help Program

The special self-help program of the U.S. Embassy to Uganda supports small, sustainable community-based initiatives that have an immediate and strong impact on the local community. The Embassy expects to support different types of projects: from development projects such as agricultural and aquacultural cooperatives to women’s empowerment and the environment. Grants typically range from US$1 thousand to US$10 thousand per project. All applicants must include a significant community contribution. The Embassy welcomes applications from Ugandan-based nonprofit organizations, community based organizations, and citizens. The closing date for applications is 14 April 2023. Self-Help Program

African Plant Nutrition Institute — Photo Contest

The African Plant Nutrition Institute (APNI) seeks photographs that shine a light on plant nutrition research and development across Africa. Photos must show either nutrient deficiency symptoms in a crop or the implementation and development of improved plant nutrition practices. Nutrient deficiency images should be supported by a short description of the symptoms. Photos can be submitted until 01 July 2023. APNI Photo Contest

British Council — Scholarship Program Sustainable Energy

The EU-ECOWAS Scholarship Program provides scholarships for masters’ degrees in the sustainable energy sector at specialized universities in West Africa (Cape Verde, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal, Togo). The program offers two types of scholarships: Mobile Scholarships and Stationary Scholarships. Applicants must be nationals of a member state of ECOWAS or Mauritania. U.S. Government — International Environmental Governance Capacity Building

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency seeks applications for a collaborative program that would enhance environmental governance capacity in several regions in Central America and the Caribbean, South America, the Middle East and North Africa, and other bilateral initiatives, including Mexico, China, Indonesia, Taiwan, Sub-Sahara Africa, Ukraine, and Brazil. Applications will be accepted from local governments; international organizations; public and private universities; and non-profit institutions. Future Africa Leaders Foundation — Future Africa Challenge

The Future Africa Challenge is a competition to explore the creative potentials of young Africans in Africa and the diaspora. The Challenge seeks projects or solutions of young innovators within 7 categories: Education, Technology, Entrepreneurship, Humanitarian, Agriculture, Advocacy and Movie. Feed the Future Market Systems and Partnerships — Mozambique Partnerships Facility

Market Systems and Partnerships (MSP) invites for-profit businesses to apply for funding in Mozambique. MSP offers firms operating in the country the opportunity to co-invest with USAID to address the food crisis resulting from shortages of food, fuel, and fertilizer due to Russia’s war on Ukraine. IMMANA — Career Development Fellowships

Innovative Methods and Metrics for Agriculture and Nutrition Actions (IMMANA) is a research initiative with the aim to stimulate the development of innovative methodological approaches in agriculture and food systems for improved health and nutrition. IMMANA awards post-doctoral fellowships to emerging leaders who are applying and/or validating new methodological approaches in ongoing research programs in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). The fellowship includes a research stipend, a travel allowance, and an honorarium for mentors. Fellows conduct their research in Africa or Asia under the joint supervision of two mentors. Eligible candidates have a doctoral degree in any field related to agriculture, nutrition or health research. Full applications are due no later than 01 February 2023. IMMANA Fellowships

Siemenpuu Foundation — Energy Justice

The Siemenpuu Foundation promotes the systemic transition towards sustainability, meaning the dismantling of fossil and otherwise unsustainable modes of production, distribution and consumption of energy. Siemenpuu aims to support work that advocates just and environmentally sustainable energy systems, and promotes community-based renewable energy for marginalized rural communities. Swedish Institute — Management Program Africa

The Swedish Institute Management Program (SIMP) seeks responsible leadership and sustainable business practices. Applicants should be interested in topics such as business impact on the environment, diversity and inclusion in the workplace as well as financial strategies for sustainable development. Entrepreneurs between 25-45 years old from Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda or Zambia are invited to apply.
