The Kiwa Initiative supports nature-based solutions for biodiversity and climate change adaptation in the Pacific. The Initiative serves communities in Pacific island countries and territories. It supports projects focusing on nature-based solutions via grants and technical assistance. The Initiative supports local projects with very small grants (€25 thousand to €50 thousand), small grants (€50 thousand to €100 thousand) and medium-sized grants (€100 thousand to €400 thousand). Regional projects will be supported with €1.5 million to €5 million but must involve at least two proponents of the 19 eligible countries and territories. Eligibility extends to national authorities, local authorities, regional organizations, and local or international non-governmental organizations. The British Academy accepts applications for ‘Just Transitions to Decarbonisation’ in the Asia-Pacific. The program provides UK and internationally-based researchers with the opportunity to submit proposals for in-depth studies focused on just decarbonization transitions in the Asia-Pacific as a whole, and China, India, Japan and Australia specifically. Awards of five months in duration and up to £100 thousand are available. The lead applicant must be a researcher based at an eligible UK university or research institute. EIT Climate-KIC aims to support the development of innovative commercial products or services that achieve climate impact through entrepreneurship and commercial means. EIT Climate-KIC seeks to finance innovators, researchers, scientists, coaches, and experts to join forces in projects that aim to bring innovative solutions to the European market. Innovative actions should address a decarbonization or climate adaptation challenge. EIT anticipates making up to €5 million funding available with a 20% to 40% contribution towards each project’s total budget. The call closes for applications on 18 November 2021. Innovation Call

Climate Tracker plans to support a small team of 5 in-person journalists to report from inside the UN Climate Talks this October & November. Climate Tracker seeks young, but experienced reporters based in Europe or the UK, but come from a developing country background, and can speak and write in a non-English language. The Young Women Leadership on Climate Adaptation program is a virtual educational and capacity-building event that fosters the leadership of African young women to induce and realize sustainable solutions that build resilience to the changing climate. The part-time training program will spread over 20-weeks between October 2021 to March 2022. The program aims to help participants to develop an advanced skills set for effective leadership and gain the knowledge to effectively communicate about climate adaptation. Participants must be women between the ages 20-35 and nationals of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria or Zimbabwe. The AFSIA Solar Awards celebrate exceptional talent in the African solar market. AFSIA seeks solar applications, for example, large-scale solar park or solar home systems, grid-connected and off-grid systems, and solar-powered applications such as street lighting, solar irrigation, refrigeration or cook stoves. The EU GCCA+ Youth Awards support young journalists, writers and photographers to tell powerful climate stories around the world. Individuals between 18 and 30 years can participate with a video or a story with photos about climate change cooperation, preferably related to an EU-funded project in their country. Five award winners will be able to participate in a 6 weeks masterclass with leading climate reporters and activists. The deadline for registration and submission is 22 September 2021. The Global Environment Facility (GEF) supports climate adaptation efforts mainly in the least developed countries. The Challenge Program for Adaptation Innovation aims to test and validate scalable investment approaches, business models, partnerships, and technologies. The GEF accepts project concepts with a total value of US$10 million. Concept notes should request no more than US$2 million. Emphasis will be placed on concepts that promote innovation and risk taking for climate adaptation impact. Concept notes can be submitted by any public, private or civil society organization.
