The Swiss applicant needs to have a proposed or an ongoing research project with an institutional partner in the MENA region. The maximum grant amount per project is CHF15 thousand. Both the applicant and the partner institute abroad are required to make in-kind contributions to the proposed research project. The UK-ASEAN Institutional Links Early Career Researchers (ILECR) Scheme provides seed funding to senior researchers from higher education institutions in the UK and partner countries – Brunei, Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand. Subject areas for the collaborative research include local development challenges such as agritech and biodiversity, among others. Proposals are submitted jointly by a principal investigator in the UK with a principal investigator in a partner country. Grants are up to £50 thousand over 12 months. The Western Indian Ocean Marine Science Association (WIOMSA), and partners, offer a shipboard fellowship opportunity onboard the research vessel R/V Marion Dufresne during 2022 (29 June – 22 July). Ten early-career scientists and postgraduate students involved in oceanographic work at institutions in the Western Indian Ocean will be selected to participate in the Floating University project. The program is primarily open to postgraduate students (PhD or MSc) involved in oceanographic work, marine sciences, and maritime studies at institutions in Comoros, Kenya, Mauritius, Madagascar, Mozambique, South Africa, Seychelles Somali, and Tanzania. The Swedish Institute offers project funding through the call ‘Third Country Participation in the Baltic Sea region’. The Institute funds projects that will contribute to economic, environmentally and socially sustainable growth in the Baltic Sea region and its immediate area. The main applicant has to be based in Sweden, but must include at least three actors in three different countries, including Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Georgia, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Poland, Russia, or Ukraine. The United Nations Development Programme in Africa (UNDP Africa) seeks youth from the Sahel Region willing to pitch their innovative solutions to a panel of judges at the YouthConnekt Sahel Forum. UNDP Africa is interested in innovative ideas from a broad range of topics, including agroforestry and climate change mitigation/adaptation, driving the region’s transformation. Participants have to be 35 or younger and be a national of Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Chad, The Gambia, Guinea, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, or Senegal. The U.S. Ambassador’s Special Self-Help Fund (SSH) announces an open competition for organizations to submit applications to carry out a small, community-based development program. The program awards grants to non-profit, community-based organizations to implement short-term (12-month), small-scale (between US$2,500 and US$8,000) development projects that include significant community involvement. Priority consideration is given to income generating projects that improve basic economic or social conditions at the village level, which may include projects in sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, and access to clean water and sanitation. The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) seeks applications for a cooperative agreement from qualified organizations to implement Somalia’s Market Based Resilience for Marginalized Populations (MB-RMP) Activity. USAID intends to make one award of US$ 6.5 million to accelerate economic development of marginalized groups through rural and urban livelihood diversification. Eligibility is unrestricted. The Bergen Summer Research School offers parallel short courses for PhD students and young researchers on themes of urgent societal problems focusing on the transition to sustainability. The courses will focus on key global challenges, including socio-economic inequality, psychological and social science perspectives on climate change, and the sustainable development of life below water. Stipends to participate in the course are available for qualified individuals who are currently enrolled for studies and carrying out research in a list of eligible developing countries.
