The Swedish Institute offers funding to Swedish universities, for projects together with their partners in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Russia and Ukraine. The aim is to strengthen the capacity for internationalization within higher education and research. The program offers two types of project funding, Seed Funding of SEK 100-300 thousand for projects with a duration of up to 12 months, and Collaboration Funding of up to SEK 1 million for the duration of 18 months. The TED Fellows Program provides transformational support to an international community of visionaries who collaborate across disciplines (many within the thematic fields of the Terra Viva Grants Directory) to create positive change around the world. TED Fellows are chosen based on remarkable achievement, character, and their innovative approach to solving the world’s tough problems. Selected fellows participate in professional training and mentoring with public relations experts, and attend regional meet-ups and retreats for conservation and exchange of ideas. The New York Academy of Sciences’ virtual mentoring program ‘1000 Girls, 1000 Futures’ and ‘The Junior Academy’ accept applications from female students ages 13-17 from around the world. The program connects STEM-focused high school girls to female science mentors and offers an online community with STEM resources. The program also accepts applications of female scientists interested in mentoring young girls. The Canada Fund for Local Initiatives invites proposals that meet the needs of local communities in Libya. The priorities under this call include women’s economic rights, decent jobs and entrepreneurship, and investing in the poorest and most vulnerable (which may include agriculture or aquaculture projects), as well as environment, climate action focusing on adaptation and mitigation, and water management. The average contribution is C$20 thousand to C$30 thousand per project. Eligibility extends to local community organizations, non-profit organizations, and academic institutions. The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) offers scholarships for qualified applicants from developing countries who enroll at German universities for Masters Degrees. The scholarship program “Leadership for Africa” (LfA) aims to support young refugees and national scholars from Cameroon, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Niger and Senegal at higher education institutions in Germany. The scholarship includes a language course (2-6 months) before the start of the university studies, tuition-fees and a monthly scholarship payment for living expenses. The Ambassador’s Special Self-Help (SSH) Program is a grants program that seeks to reduce poverty and hunger in sub-Saharan Africa. SSH announces an open competition for organizations in Rwanda to submit applications to carry out a small, community-based development program. Funding aims at assisting community groups to develop lasting, self-sustaining projects with focus on development concerns, including sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, and access to clean water and sanitation. The Nature+ Accelerator Fund aims to support nature-based innovative solutions to mitigate and adapt to climate change whilst delivering positive impacts both on biodiversity and the wellbeing of local communities. The Fund will invest in projects across the following four categories: Terrestrial Conservation and Restoration; Marine Conservation and Coastal Resilience; Sustainable Agriculture; and Nature-Based Innovation (e.g., drone technology, conservation-focused smart apps, etc.). Projects with an early-stage concept may request between US$100-200 thousand, projects that have a proof-of-concept can receive between US$1-2 million, and successful projects looking for follow-on funding to scale-up will receive up to US$5 million. The SDG Academy (edX) offers graduate-level courses on sustainable development for participants around the world. Thematic areas range from sustainable cities to sustainable food systems to climate action. SDG Academy courses can be audited for free or participants can choose to receive a Verified Certificate for a small fee. The African ChangeMakers Fellowship Program selects African changemakers between the ages of 25-40 years to train, upskills and empower them with globally accepted cross-cutting training. Selected applicants are enrolled in an intensive four weeks’ digital online connectivity course to receive educational and capacity development in Civic Engagement, Entrepreneurship, Leadership, Project Management, Techpreneur, Social Enterprise, Mentorship, SDG, African Union 2063 Agenda, and much more. The Asia Pacific Forum on Women, Law and Development (APWLD) invites women’s rights and feminist organizations to apply for sub-grants. APWLD will support up to 8 organizations to do monitoring of the SDGs implementation in their country. The aim is to develop the capacity of feminist movements and women’s rights organizations to conduct evidence-based advocacy for the monitoring and review of the Sustainable Development Goals. APWLD will provide each partner organization with a sub-grant of between US$15 thousand to US$18 thousand.
