BiodivERsA announces its call on theme “Biodiversity and Climate Change.” The call aims at supporting transnational research projects jointly addressing issues at the nexus of biodiversity and animal, human and/ or plant health (including biological diversity; effects of global change factors; and biodiversity benefits). The participating countries in this call are Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Israel, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Tunisia, and Turkey. The Breakthrough Institute makes research fellowships to non-resident research collaborators with the Breakthrough Institute’s research program. The Institute supports research in energy, conservation, agriculture, with new approaches to major environmental and development challenges. The Research Fellowship runs for 8 weeks, totaling US$5 thousand. Applicants should possess a Master’s degree at minimum. Fellowships are open to applicants from any country. The International Initiative for Impact Evaluation (3ie) offers three bursaries to support postgraduates and professional staff from low-and-middle-income countries for the London International Development Centre short course “Evaluation: from innovation to impact.” The program will include sessions on quantitative and qualitative research as well as methods and impact evaluations. The Youth in Landscapes Initiative invites filmmakers between 18 and 35 years, to create a short film that showcases the power and the potential of youth-led actions and innovations in improving landscape management in communities in Ghana. Selected filmmakers will join the Youth in Landscape Camp being held near Accra (October 2019). The film must be between three and six minutes and can be of any genre or creative narrative. The Invest2Impact Competition seeks to support 100 women-led businesses in East Africa with funding, mentoring and networking opportunities. The competition will award US$20 thousand to a business that is working to address climate change and promote a green economy, among three other categories. The Regional Disaster Assistance Program (RDAP) accepts applications for its Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Small Grants Program. The goal of the program is to increase the capacity of local and national authorities in the region to prepare for and respond to disasters. For that reason, RDAP intends to award projects valued between US$15 thousand and US$ 50 thousand. Organizations eligible to apply include local non-governmental organizations and local universities. Blue Earth supports photography projects that educate the public about threatened cultures, endangered environments, and other social concerns through fiscal sponsorship. Blue Earth provides assistance with fundraising, publishing, and publicity. However, it does not make cash grants to sponsored projects. The next deadline for proposals is 20 January 2020. The aim of the Newton PhD Program offers full-time PhD scholarships for Filipino researchers at a UK higher education institution. The project must fall within the following priority areas (relevant to the Terra Viva Grants Directory): Improving environmental resilience; Improving energy security; Agritech; among other thematic areas. For an applicant to be considered for the DOST-Newton PhD Scholarship, the applicant must be a Filipino Citizen and have already been accepted to a PhD program in the UK. The scholarship will cover travel costs, monthly accommodation and living allowance, tuition fees, and a grant for consumables (up to a maximum of £3 thousand per year). The U.S. Embassy in Kuala Lumpur announces a competition for organizations to submit applications to implement a series of bootcamp programs on youth empowerment and leadership for members of the Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) in higher education institutions throughout Malaysia. The organization will receive up to US$100 thousand for the implementation of several workshops (min. 2 days each) aimed at participants ages 18-35 years. BBSRC accepts applications for strategic training awards of up to 12 months in duration to support research capability addressing current global challenges. The purpose of this call is to build a portfolio of sustainable training resources in research priority areas, focusing on sustainable development in developing countries. Focus areas include sustainable energy; clean air, water and sanitation; resilience to long-term environmental change; sustainable marine resources and agriculture, among others. A total of up to £500 thousand is available to support the training activities. GCRF-STARS applications should be co-created and delivered through training partnerships between the UK partner and organisations from developing countries.
