The Southeast Asian Regional Centre for Tropical Biology (SEAMO BIOTROP) aims to increase the knowledge and skills of ASEAN professionals and students on a wide range of topics in tropical biology. Unless otherwise indicated, training courses are conducted at the SEAMEO BIOTROP headquarter in Bogor, Indonesia. Priority is for nationals of SEAMEO member countries, especially in the sponsored courses. The remaining BIOTROP courses and seminars for 2019 are scheduled from July through October. The Land Rover Bursary supports researcher and explorer teams by providing funding of up to £30 thousand and the loan of a vehicle. The bursary is intended to be used for a journey with a geographical purpose where the capabilities of a Land Rover are indispensable. The application deadline is 30 November 2019. Minnesota Zoo — Ulysses S. Seal Conservation Grant Program
The Minnesota Zoo (USA) sponsors the Ulysses S. Seal Conservation Grant Program to award small grants to projects promoting the conservation of wildlife. Funding priority is given to field-based conservation, but worthy zoo-based projects are considered. Since its inception in 2002, the fund has awarded over US$460 thousand to more than 200 projects in 50 countries. The University of Michigan seeks abstracts for presentations, workshops, and applications for financial assistance from students and scholars from lower-income countries for participation in the international conference on Sustainability and Development (11-14 October 2019). The conference themes are Sustainable Development and Indigenous Peoples, Climate Change, Agriculture, Water, Sanitation, and Health, Biodiversity and Conservation, Energy Provision and Access, among others. U.S. National Fish and Wildlife Foundation — Monarch Butterfly Conservation Fund 2019
The Monarch Butterfly Conservation Fund supports efforts to increase the population numbers of monarch butterflies in North America (USA, Mexico, Canada). The priority is projects in the eastern population’s migratory flyway. Proposals are also invited for projects in the western USA, Canada, and Mexico. Grants are up to two years in length, and will generally range from US$50 thousand to US$300 thousand. The funding is available for activities that fall within the areas of habitat restoration and improvement. The program requires matching funds of at least 1:1. United States Government — ASEAN Science Prize for Women
The 2019 ASEAN-U.S. Science Prize for Women seeks to identify and recognize ASEAN-based, early to mid-career women who are using applied sciences in the theme of the “Circular Economy”. The top two finalists will be invited to compete in a pitch competition during an ASEAN Ministerial event in Singapore in October 2019. The overall winner will receive $20 thousand. U.S. Department of State — Building Cooperation to Combat Wildlife Trafficking Between Africa and Asia
The U.S. Department of State seeks proposals to improve cooperation between governments in Africa and Asia to combat wildlife trafficking and implement joint action to dismantle the transnational networks that perpetrate these crimes. The project budget must fall between US$500 thousand and US$950 thousand. Eligible organizations include U.S. and overseas based non-profit organizations (NGOs) or educational institutions.
