The JRS Biodiversity Foundation aims to increase the access to and the use of information for biodiversity conservation and sustainable development in Sub-Saharan Africa. The current call for proposals requests multi-year projects focused on biodiversity data, knowledge, and information services related to freshwater biodiversity and pollinator biodiversity in Eastern and Southern Africa. Preference is for projects that can grow to larger scale, or that can be transferred across geographic regions or across organizational and institutional contexts. The U.S. African Development Foundation (USADF) and Ekiti State Government (EKSG) invites proposals for grant financing and local support for innovative solutions that improve farmer incomes and achieve sustainable market-based growth. Proposals will be accepted from registered agricultural cooperatives, producer groups, and agricultural processors in Nigeria. Grant awards range from US$50 thousand to US$250 thousand. U.S. Department of State — Air Quality Management in Africa
The U.S. Department of State announces the “Air Quality Management Community of Practice in Africa” program. The program seeks to build a regional community of practice to convene air quality experts to create knowledge and develop best practices to improve air quality monitoring and expand awareness. The total funding is US$440 thousand for a period of performance of up to 36 months. European Commission — Green Economy in Jordan
The European Commission (EC) seeks to contribute to the development of a green, environmentally sustainable economy in Jordan. The EC will fund projects that focus on enhanced coordination and sustainable resource management in the energy, water and agriculture sectors. Any grant requested under this call for proposals must fall between €1 million and €1.25 million. Hague Academy for Local Governance — Course on “Multilevel Water Governance”
The Hague Academy for Local Governance invites applications for a practice-oriented blended course on water governance. Participants will receive training and visit several Dutch examples of water projects in order to use this knowledge to develop practical solutions for the challenges they face in their home country. Participants are predominantly funded by their own employer but the program is eligible for Nuffic scholarships, which have a separate application process and deadlines (please check carefully). Swedish Institute — Academic Collaboration in the Baltic Sea Region
The Swedish Institute offers funding to Swedish universities, for projects together with their partners in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Russia and Ukraine. The aim is to strengthen the capacity for internationalization within higher education and research. The program offers two types of project funding, Seed Funding of SEK 100-300 thousand for projects with a duration of up to 12 months, and Collaboration Funding of up to SEK 1 million for the duration of 18 months. XPRIZE Foundation — Carbon Removal
XPRIZE Carbon Removal, funded by Elon Musk and the Musk Foundation, aims to find solutions that fight climate change and rebalance Earth’s carbon cycle. This four-year global competition invites innovators and teams from anywhere on the planet to create and demonstrate solutions that can pull carbon dioxide directly from the atmosphere or oceans. Any carbon negative solution is eligible: nature-based, direct air capture, oceans, mineralization, etc. The competition will last for 4 years through Earth Day 2025. After one year of competition the judges will review all submissions and award up to 15 Milestone Prizes of $1 million each. InfoNile — Workshop: Reporting on Rivers and Biodiversity in the Nile Basin
InfoNile invites applications for training, workshop and mentorship on Reporting on Rivers and Biodiversity in the Nile Basin. The weeklong workshop in Uganda will feature presentations, field trips, discussions, practical sessions, and group activities. Successful journalists will receive transport to Uganda and back to their home country, accommodation including meals for the duration of the workshop, and grants to produce their stories. Reporters and editors from Egypt, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, Uganda, Sudan, South Sudan, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo are invited to apply. The purpose of this activity is to improve governance of water resources and services and improve equitable access to water used for productive purposes. The Biodiversity Partners Program (BiPP) is a training course with focus on biodiversity regeneration and nature based solutions with the aim to support the implementation of pro-nature projects. The program is for organizations (companies, institutions, etc.) and entrepreneurs who develop or support projects that will have an impact on biodiversity. Eligibility extends to Southern African projects holders in Namibia, Angola, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Malawi, Zambia, and Botswana. Participation in the program is free.
