Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture — Grants for Research towards Agricultural Innovative Solutions

SEARCA GRAINS offers short-term starter funds to collaborative actions aimed at transformative innovations for more sustainable agriculture and rural development across Southeast Asia. GRAINS will support the translational research and community knowledge transfer of technologies and products that will lead to diffusion or adoption of innovative solutions in agriculture. Funding ranges from US$ 5 thousand to US$15 thousand. The grant is open to academic/research, private, government or non-government institutions, farmer groups and cooperatives. University of Pennsylvania — Visiting Fellowship for African Scholars

The Penn Development Research Initiative (DevLab at the University of Pennsylvania) seeks to build capacity for rigorous research on pressing policy challenges facing low- and middle-income countries, by providing training and research opportunities for emerging researchers. The university invites researchers from Sub-Saharan Africa to apply for a semester-long fellowship for the 2023 Fall semester (September – December 2023). Visiting fellows will have the opportunity to audit doctoral-level classes, carry out independent research and present their research. PDRI will cover accommodation, health insurance, a monthly stipend, visa fees, and round-trip economy airfare for selected fellows. The application deadline is 13 December 2022. Details

U.S. Department of State — Global Undergraduate Exchange Program

The Global Undergraduate Exchange Program (Global UGRAD) provides scholarships to outstanding undergraduate students from the developing world for one semester of non-degree full-time study combined with community service, professional development, and cultural enrichment in the USA. Students from all academic disciplines are welcome to apply. The eligible countries are listed in the call. Candidates need to apply through the U.S. embassies in their home countries. Embassy of Japan in Mozambique — Water and Sanitation

The Embassy of Japan in Mozambique provides financial assistance to non-profit organizations in support of Basic Human Needs, including Water and Sanitation. The maximum grant amount per project is 10 million yen (approx. US$66 thousand). Potential recipients are community-based nonprofit organizations that implement development projects at grass-roots level (NGOs, educational institutions, local governments, etc.). United States Agency for International Development — Urban Sanitation Madagascar

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) announces the Madagascar Urban Sanitation Project. USAID/Madagascar aims to engage eligible partners to expand water and sanitation in urban areas. USAID anticipates supporting one award of up to US$10 million over five years. American University in Cairo — African Graduate Fellowships

The African Graduate Fellowship offers African students with limited financial means the opportunity to pursue a master degree at the American University in Cairo (AUC). Nationals of African countries (excluding Egypt) can apply for full-time study in any graduate program offered at the AUC, including the Master of Science programs in Biotechnology, Environmental Engineering, and others. The fellowship covers tuition fees, housing, a monthly allowance and health insurance. The application deadlines are 15 January (fall semester) and 17 October (spring semester). Canadian International Development Research Center — IDRC Research Awards 2023

The International Development Research Center (IDRC) makes research awards to citizens and permanent residents of Canada, and to citizens of developing countries. The award provides for a one-year paid program of research in addition to hands-on experience in research management, grant administration, and the use of knowledge from an international perspective. Six positions are available at IDRC’s head office in Ottawa (Canada). Program areas include climate resilience and sustainable food systems; and several others. Applicants should be enrolled, or have previously completed, their masters or doctoral degrees at recognized universities. EIT Food Call — Technology Solutions in the Agri-Food Sector

EIT Food invests in projects, organizations and individuals with innovative solutions for a healthy and more sustainable food system. EIT Food co-funds the development of commercial projects in the agrifood sector. The selected organization will receive funding of up to €600 thousand per activity for 12 months or up to €1,2 million per activity over a maximum of 24 months. Women’s World Summit Foundation — Prize for Women’s Creativity in Rural Life 2023

The Women’s World Summit Foundation (WWSF) invites nominations for its annual Prize for Women’s Creativity in Rural Life. The prize honors women’s groups for exceptional creativity, courage, and commitment to improve the quality of life in rural communities. Each year, between 5-10 winners receive a cash prize of US$1,000. Nominations include biographical data about the nominee; at least two endorsement letters; and labeled photos. EIT Climate-KIC — Pan-African Climate Accelerator

Africa ClimAccelerator supports promising climate impact ideas and early-stage businesses with climate tech solutions through business support and capacity building. The program seeks applications from early- to mid-stage African startups with solutions that are addressing the impacts of climate change and building the resilience of communities. The program provides business coaching, professional guidance on finance, support defining the climate impact potential of their solution, and preparation for future investment opportunities.
