The U.S. Department of State announces the notice of funding opportunity for the Global Innovation through Science and Technology (GIST) initiative. GIST supports projects that strengthen young innovators and entrepreneurs in low and middle income countries by connecting them with American businesses and experts. Proposed projects must address in-country training activities and pitch competitions; interactive online activities; early-stage investment networks; and website maintenance. Funding of US$1 million will be made available. Eligibility is limited to U.S. non-profit organizations and educational institutions. UNESCO seeks nominations for the Avicenna Prize for Ethics in Science 2019 with a special thematic focus on climate change and environmental sustainability. Mediterranean Marine Protected Areas Network — Grants for Small Projects 2020-2021
MedPAN launches a new call for small projects to support Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) in the Mediterranean. The grants will reinforce the management of MPAs from the perspective of integrated coastal zone management and sustainable financing. They will also promote habitat mapping and the protection of marine turtles. MedPAN’s contribution will be €20 thousand per project (matching contributions of 25 % are required). The eligible countries are Albania, Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Montenegro, Tunisia, and Turkey.
