U.S. Department of State — Enabling Forest Investment

The U.S. Department of State announces a funding opportunity for “Enabling Forest Investment Development Facility (ForInvest).” The overall goal is to facilitate investment in natural climate solutions in developing countries, especially in high-deforestation areas, by developing investment pipelines and connecting those opportunities with potential investors. The project should encompass all three of the key geographies to Conserve Global Forests: the Amazon basin, Congo Basin, and Southeast Asia. A total of US$5.1 million will be made available. Eligibility is limited to U.S. and foreign non-profit organizations; for-profit organizations, and educational institutions. The application deadline is 30 May 2022. Link

Copernicus Masters — Environment, Energy & Health Challenge

Copernicus Masters is an international innovation competition that honors the best solutions using earth observation data and applications to solve global challenges. The Environment, Energy & Health Challenge, sponsored by DLR, seeks innovative solutions that use earth observation (EO) data to support sustainable management of the planet’s limited natural resources and foster human well-being. The winner of the DLR challenge receives €5 thousand. All participants have the chance to win an additional €10 thousand if chosen as the overall Copernicus winner. Aqua for All — Access to Water & Sanitation

Aqua for All aims to facilitate sustainable access to water & sanitation and therefore requests concept notes on solutions to water challenges in Africa or South Asia. Aqua for All provides grant money to scale and implement solutions that address drinking water, sanitation and/or water management. The application is open to companies, government agencies, knowledge institutes, and non-profit organizations. There is no application deadline. Know more

Climate Investment Platform — EmPower Her

EmPower Her seeks to close the financing gap for early-stage clean energy projects in least developed markets by supporting women-led organizations or organizations whose main focus is women’s empowerment. Private sector developers, NGOs, universities and research centers from least developed countries are eligible to apply. Successful project proponents receive up to US$40 thousand to accelerate the preparation of investment readiness. The pre-screening application deadline is 08 April 2022. EmPower Her

Critical Ecosystems Partnership Fund — Biodiversity Conservation Indonesia (Large Grants)

Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF) makes large grants in support of biodiversity conservation in Indonesia with focus on the “Wallacea Biodiversity Hotspot.” Grants are in support of community-based sustainable small-scale fisheries, protection and conservation of endangered marine species, marine protected areas management, and activities that promote improved marine and coastal ecosystems. This call is for large grants of up to US$75 thousand. Eligibility for grants extends to NGOs, community groups, private enterprises, universities, and other civil society applicants. Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences — Prize in Food Security

The Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS) accepts nominations for the 2022 Al-Sumait Prize in Food Security. The prize is awarded to individuals or institutions who have made significant advancement in food security and nutrition in Africa. The prize is awarded within one of three fields – Food Security, Health and Education – and has a value of US$1 million. The candidates’ research projects must be innovative and have achieved high-impact in the African continent. Belmont Forum — Sustainable Consumption and Production

The Belmont Forum welcomes transdisciplinary proposals to its collaborative research actions on systems of sustainable consumption and production (SSCP). Proposals to the Belmont Forum must address one of the following four themes: Transdisciplinary Research to help transition to Green Economies; Sustainable and Resilient industries; Social Inequality and Environmental Justice; New Technologies, Policies, and Practices. The Belmont Forum will fund three-year projects. All projects should include 3 funding agencies from 3 different countries. Proposals will be due mid October 2022. Know more

Swedish Research Council — International Postdoc Grants in Development Research

The Swedish Research Council makes international postdoc grants within development research to newly qualified researchers with a doctoral degree from a Swedish university or the European University Institute (EUI). The Council invites applications from all disciplines and subject areas, including natural sciences, engineering sciences, environmental sciences, and many others. Research proposals must be of particular relevance to the fight against poverty and for sustainable development in low income countries. The grant amount is SEK 1.15 million per year and may be used to cover salary, housing, costs related to the research project (such as equipment, consumables and publication costs), and additional costs. Canada Fund for Local Initiatives — Community Projects in Tunisia

The Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI) invites proposals that meet the needs of local communities in Tunisia. CFLI provides funding to projects that implement environment and climate action projects focusing on adaptation and mitigation, water management, and other thematic priorities. The average contribution is C$50 thousand per project (in exceptional cases, CFLI may grant up to C$100 thousand). Eligibility extends to not-for-profit local, national or community-based organizations. The deadline for submission is 31 March 2022. Link

Graduate Institute Geneva — Geneva Challenge on Poverty Reduction

The Graduate Institute Geneva invites graduate students from all around the world to develop innovative interdisciplinary solutions that address the global challenges of poverty reduction. Five finalist teams, one team per continent, will be invited to an oral presentation in Geneva. The winning project will receive CHF10 thousand.
