Earth Journalism Network — Asia-Pacific Story Grants

The Earth Journalism Network makes reporting grants to support the production of in-depth stories that highlight previously untold threats to global biodiversity, or explore new conservation-based solutions in the Asia-Pacific region. Story ideas that uncover corruption, address the safety of environmental defenders, and call out state and business practices that are impacting negatively on the environment and the lives of local communities are particularly welcome. Eligibility for funding extends to journalists (online, print, television) and other expert media practitioners with a track record of reporting on environmental issues. International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis — Grant Fund for Capacity Building of Young Scientists

The International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) funds research projects of young scientists in the areas of conservation of wildlife and ecosystems in the Asia-Pacific region (including South and Southeast Asia). Applicants must be less than 40 years old and work or study full-time in a university or research institution. The Project Coordinator is requested to have teaching and/or working experience at a Japanese university or research institution. The maximum grant size is ¥1,5 million per project. UK Government — Energy Catalyst: Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia

The Energy Catalyst competition seeks innovative, market-focused energy solutions for Sub-Saharan Africa and/or South Asia. Projects must encourage the development of products and services that help countries in Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia access low carbon energy. Early stage projects (feasibility studies) may apply for up to £300 thousand, mid stage projects (industrial research) for up to £1.5 million, and late stage projects (experimental development) for up to £5 million. The BRICS Young Scientist Forum seeks to strengthen existing bilateral and multilateral relations as well as cooperation among its member countries Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. BRICS invites proposals from young scientists with projects in the thematic areas Ecology, Materials Science, and Artificial Intelligence for the 5th BRICS-YSF Conclave in Russia. All participants will have the opportunity to attend the activities of Science Communication Program. The Meryl Williams Fellowship is a women’s leadership program to support women in agricultural research for development to enhance their leadership skills and professional development. The first two cohorts of the fellowship include a variety of activities that will take place across a 15-month period in Australia and Singapore. Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation — Global Program on Food Security

The Global Program Food Security seeks innovative initiatives to contribute to food systems’ improvements and transformative and sustainable impacts on poor people. The SDC invites abstracts of project proposals in four themes related to global food security: (1) Human rights in food systems; (2) Responsible land-based investment practices; (3) Agrobiodiversity for food security and nutrition; and (4) Nutrition in secondary cities. Proposals under theme 3 should focus on improving food security and nutrition of smallholder farmers in three to four countries in Africa and Asia. SDC’s contribution will be a maximum of CHF 2,5 million per year and covering a maximum of 50% – 80% of the total cost of the project for up to 10 years. The deadline for abstracts is 28 August 2020. The Food for Progress (FFPr) Program provides for the donation of U.S. agricultural commodities to developing countries in support agricultural development activities. Priority areas under this call are: the Cacao Sector (Colombia), the Cashew Sector (West Africa), the Vanilla Spice Sector (Uganda), Sanitary and Phytosanitary Standards (Dominican Republic), and the Trade Facilitation Agreement (Bangladesh). USDA intends to make up to five awards ranging from US$15 million US$35 million each. Climate Tracker — Southeast Asia Media Research Analysis

Climate Tracker seeks people with media experience to co-design a regional media analysis of Coal across Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand, and the Philippines.
