Japan Foundation Center for Global Partnership — Abe Fellowships 2019

The Abe Fellowship encourages international research in the social sciences and related disciplines on topics of pressing global concern — including climate change, sustainable urbanization, environmental degradation, and other cross-cutting issues that advance global problem solving from a transnational perspective. The fellowship program is open to citizens of Japan and the USA, as well as to nationals of other countries who can demonstrate serious long-term affiliations with research communities in Japan or the USA. Belmont Forum — Climate, Environment and Health

The Belmont Forum, in collaboration with Future Earth, invites proposals for research projects. Research consortia should make use of transdisciplinary approaches to investigate and fill knowledge gaps for a better understanding of links between climate change, environment, and health impacts. Research consortia must include at least three participating partner organizations established in three different countries. Participating organizations under this call are established in the following countries: China, Côte d’Ivoire, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Turkey, UK, and USA. Idea Wild — Equipment and Supplies for Biodiversity Conservation

Idea Wild is a nonprofit organization to provide equipment and supplies in support of biodiversity conservation in developing countries. Grants are to individuals of any nationality engaged in biodiversity conservation, education, or research in the developing countries. The total cost of your equipment must be below US$1,500. The application should include a detailed description of the requested equipment, as well as contact information for the company that sells each item of the equipment. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change — Scholarship for PhD Students

The IPCC Scholarship Programme provides scholarships for PhD students from developing countries for research that advances the understanding of the scientific basis of risks of climate change. The scholarship amount is €15 thousand per year for up to two years. Swiss State Secretariat for Education — Research Collaboration with the MENA region

The Swiss State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI) will fund up to 10 research projects with institutions in the MENA region. Innovation starting grants aim to foster collaboration between Swiss researchers from universities or research institutes in the Middle East and North Africa. The call is open to all scientific disciplines and fields of research. The maximum grant amount is CHF50 thousand. Belmont Forum — Funding for Arctic Observation and Research

The Belmont Forum’s collaborative research action on Resilience in Rapidly Changing Arctic Systems (CRA Arctic II) is an initiative to monitor and understand the complex changes occurring in the Arctic. This call supports medium-sized research projects with 3 to 4 years duration, with a recommended budget of up to €1.5 million. Participating countries in this Arctic call are Canada, Denmark, France, Japan, Iceland, Netherlands, Norway, Russia, Sweden, and USA. All proposals must integrate across the natural sciences and social sciences, and they should include participation by three or more of the partner countries. International Institute for Tropical Agriculture — Agricultural Research for Graduate Students in Africa

The International Institute for Tropical Agriculture (IITA) will support 30 young academics and professionals for research on youth engagement in agribusiness and rural economic activities in Africa. The research has to be carried out in the following countries: Benin, Cameroon, Democratic Republic of Congo, Malawi, Morocco, Nigeria, Rwanda, Tanzania, Senegal, and Zambia. Applicants must currently be registered in PhD or masters programs in recognized universities, and may not be more than 40 years old. The program particularly invites applications from women. The accepted applicants will be offered coaching and training through IITA to build their research knowledge and skills. Awards for research grants are up to US$10 thousand. Clean Cooking Alliance — Field Study: Efficient Cookstoves and Fuels in Haiti

The Alliance launches a four-year clean cooking market development project in Haiti. The project aims to set the foundation for the transformation of the clean cooking market to cleaner and more efficient cookstoves and fuels in Haiti. The overall objective is to reduce the negative climate, environment, economic, and health impacts from traditional cooking practices.
