Loughborough University — Modern Energy Cooking Services Research Projects

The MECS Challenge Fund provides early-stage research funding to stimulate innovations in modern energy cooking technology in low-income countries. Community-Scale pilot studies can request up to £60 thousand, but preference will be given to projects with matched funding. Market assessments for efficient electric cooking appliances may be supported with up to £20 thousand in match funding. The majority of the project work will need to be completed within 6 or 12 months. The MECS Challenge Fund is open to all companies and organisations based anywhere in the world. São Paulo Research Foundation — International Research Collaboration

The São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) offers seed funding to support the exchange of researchers under the program “São Paulo Researchers in International Collaboration” (SPRINT). The 4th call seeks collaborations with selected partner research organizations in Argentina, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Sweden, United States, and New Zealand. The fields of joint research interest include environment, energy, and others — varying with each partnership. FAPESP also considers proposals from institutions that do not currently have an agreement with FAPESP if these institutions can present matching funds. The deadline for proposals is 27 January 2020. European Commission — Integrated Local Energy Systems

The European Commission seeks to support the economic growth of renewable energy sources as a means of decarbonising local energy systems (e.g. isolated villages, small cities, urban districts, rural areas with weak or non-existing grid connections). The objective of this call is to create a preliminary analysis of the local case as part of the content of the proposal and propose to develop solutions and tools for the optimization of the local energy network, that also have a high replication potential across Europe. European Commission — Polar Climate

The European Commission seeks to understand the polar processes in a global context in the Arctic and Antarctic Regions. Proposals should aim at developing innovative approaches, building on existing data resource, and state-of-the-art climate models, to assess the key physical and chemical processes in the ocean and atmosphere. The Commission will consider proposals requesting a contribution between €7-8 million. The deadline for submission is 13 February 2020. Details

World Academy of Sciences — Science Awards 2020

Each year, the World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) awards nine awards of US$10 thousand each to individual scientists who have been working and living in a developing country for at least 10 years. The disciplinary fields include agricultural sciences, biology, and seven others. TWAS particularly encourages nominations of women scientists, and scientists from scientifically-lagging countries. MaRINET2 — Access to Ocean Energy Research Infrastructures

MaRINET2 is working towards unlocking the energy potential of our oceans. The transnational access program offers free-of-charge access to the research and testing facilities of the MaRINET2 network. MaRINET2 provides a contribution of €1000 per week towards travel and subsistence expenses. In 2020 one period of access with a 6-month duration will be organised. Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund — Biodiversity Conservation in the Mediterranean Basin (Palestine)

The Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF) invites Letters of Inquiry (LOIs) for small grants (up to US$20 thousand) for projects that support the conservation of plants that are critically endangered or have highly restricted ranges within Palestine. Association of Avian Veterinarians — Support Of Avian Research (SOAR)

The Association of Avian Veterinarians seeks research proposals addressing significant areas of need for research in avian species (atherosclerosis and cardiac disease; avian bornavirus, feather-damaging behavior). Preference will be given to grant submissions relating to avian species traditionally kept as companions, however proposals relating to zoological species will also be considered. Agropolis Foundation — Agriculture-based Solutions

The Agropolis Foundation seeks to promote the agro-ecological transition by promoting practices and solutions which conserve natural renewable resources. Therefore, the Foundation invites research and project proposals along three transversal axes: Agriculture and climate change: adaptation and mitigation (Axis 1); Conservation and sustainable management of biodiversity (Axis 2); Responsible production and consumption (Axis 3). The call will finance two types of projects. Type 1 projects may request between €150 thousand and €250 thousand, Type 2 projects may request between €20 thousand and €25 thousand. EC Research and Innovation (Horizon 2020) — Marie Sklodowska-Curie Research Fellowships 2020

The Marie Sklodowska-Curie Research Fellowships include the Research and Innovation Staff Exchange (RISE). RISE aims to develop partnerships at the international level in Europe and outside Europe (most developing countries are eligible) in academic and non-academic sectors. The organizations constituting the partnerships contribute to joint research and innovation by seconding and/or hosting eligible staff members. The deadline for applications is 28 April 2020.
