The Coalition seeks projects that develop enabling technologies or products for off-grid and weak grid areas. Start-ups and micro-sized organizations can apply for grants of between £50 thousand and £300 thousand to be used for feasibility studies, industrial research, or experimental development. The applicant must be a legally registered business, academic organisation, non-profit, or research and technology organization. There are no geographical restrictions. The Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF) and the Prespa Ohrid Nature Trust (PONT) invite Letters of Inquiry (LOIs) for small grants (up to €50 thousand) for projects that support the conservation of plants or the sustainable management of water catchments in the wider Prespa area. Wellcome Trust — Research Development Awards in Humanities, Social Science and Bioethics
The Wellcome Trust funds groups of researchers who want to shape the direction of their research in health-related humanities, social sciences or bioethics. The Research Development Award is up to £1 million and lasts for three to five years. The award covers the costs of running the applicants research development program. World Academy of Sciences — TWAS-Lenovo Science Prize for Scientists in the Developing World
The TWAS-Lenovo Science Prize gives international recognition to individual scientists in the developing world for their outstanding scientific achievements. The prize carries a monetary award of US$100 thousand. In 2020, the prize is for agricultural sciences. Regional Studies Association — Research Network Grant
The Regional Studies Association (RSA) covers issues in the fields of climate change, energy, migration, and economic development. RSA makes grants to researchers interested in establishing networks for research collaboration. The maximum funding is £10 thousand for newly established networks; and £7,500 for renewing networks. A research network must be organised and managed by active RSA members. Networks are typically made up of individuals from different countries, without any geographical limitation. African Academy of Sciences — Intra-Africa Research Collaboration
The African Academy of Sciences (AAS) announces the second phase of the Developing Excellence in Leadership, Training and Science in Africa (DELTAS Africa) program. DELTAS Africa funds networks/consortia led by Africa-based scientists to foster intra-Africa collaboration, improving research environments and training researchers to conduct relevant, locally contextualized studies. Key research priorities include the multidisciplinary nexus of human health in connection with climate change, among others. International Livestock Research Institute — Africa Biosciences Challenge Fund
The Biosciences eastern and central Africa (BecA) Hub awards research fellowships to African agricultural researchers for short-term projects (6 month) at the BecA-ILRI Hub in Nairobi. Research projects should be aligned with crops and livestock agricultural development priorities (identified in the announcement). Candidates should be currently engaged in agricultural research and be affiliated with a national agricultural research system in the eligible countries: Burundi, Cameroon, Central Africa Republic, Congo Brazzaville, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gabon, Kenya, Madagascar, Rwanda, São Tomé and Príncipe, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda.
