The National Geographic Society seeks proposals for its program “Reducing Marine Plastic Pollution” from all around the world. The aim is to explore solutions to reduce marine plastic pollution (including behavior change). Projects may be focused around conservation, education, research, storytelling, or technology. Geographic priorities include known hot spots that contribute most to the ocean plastic pollution problem. Preference will be given to applicants who are residents or citizens of the country of fieldwork as well as to projects with strong local capacity development components. Unleash invites young experts from all around the world to participate in the 2019 Innovation Lab in Shenzhen (Nov 2019) to create real, scalable solutions towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). Teams will explore real-life challenges within the SDG themes, before defining specific problems and coming up with solutions. The top teams will present their solutions to investors and experts. Belmont Forum — Climate, Environment and Health
The Belmont Forum, in collaboration with Future Earth, invites proposals for research projects. Research consortia should make use of transdisciplinary approaches to investigate and fill knowledge gaps for a better understanding of links between climate change, environment, and health impacts. Research consortia must include at least three participating partner organizations established in three different countries. Participating organizations under this call are established in the following countries: China, Côte d’Ivoire, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Turkey, UK, and USA. The Global Environment Facility (GEF) Small Grants Programme (SGP) invites proposals from environmental oriented organizations for community actions and initiatives that aid benefit vulnerable communities and support efforts on sustainable development. Focal areas are (1) Biodiversity Conservation; (2) Protection of Water Resources; (3) Climate Change; (4) Sustainable Forestry Management; and (5) Pollution. The Drucker Institute invites nominations for the Drucker Prize 2019. The prize recognizes innovative non-profit organizations that inspire “change that creates a new dimension of performance”. Society for International Development — Andrew E. Rice Award 2019
The Andrew E. Rice Award for Leadership and Innovation recognizes the achievements of an exceptional young professional working in the field of international development. Past winners include field research on agriculture strategies and the creation of low-cost digital games that inspire social change. Candidates must be between 22 to 32 years old and have at least two years of experience in international development in developing countries. The winner will receive US$1,000. European Commission — Disaster Prevention and Preparedness
The European Commission seeks to identify and finance projects aimed at strengthening cooperation within Europe on disaster prevention and preparedness. Prevention projects may be any actions aimed at reducing risks or mitigating adverse consequences of disasters for people, the environment and property, including cultural heritage. Preparedness projects focus on strengthening preparedness for responding to emergencies, environment and marine pollution. The EU co-funding rate amounts to 85 % of total eligible costs, with a maximum EU contribution of EUR 1 million for grants awarded under the internal budget (EU countries) and EUR 400 thousand for grants awarded under the external budget (neighboring countries). Eligibility extends to private entities, public entities, and international organisations established in the European Union or Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine, Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Palestine and Tunisia.
