Earth Island Institute seeks applications for the Brower Youth Award for Environmental Leadership. The award is intended for ongoing environmental efforts, therefore, research and science fair projects will not be considered. Six winners will receive $3 thousand in cash, a professionally produced short film about their work, and a week-long trip to the San Francisco Bay Area. Participants from Switzerland and Brazil are invited to submit joint project proposals for research and development of innovative products and applications with a strong market potential in Switzerland and Brazil. The innovation project should be science-based, targeting to achieve advances in new solutions. The call is open for all scientific disciplines; however, projects in biotech, agriculture, clean energy & water, and sustainable cities and communities are particularly appreciated. U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service — Wetlands and Migratory Birds in Mexico
The Mexico Standard Program promotes the protection and restoration of wetland ecosystems and other habitats for wetlands-associated migratory birds and other fish and wildlife. Grants under this call generally range from US$50 thousand to US$700 thousand. Eligibility extends to individuals, corporations, government agencies, universities, and international organizations. The Latvian State Education Development Agency offers scholarships to foreign students, researchers and teaching staff for studies, research and participation in summer schools in Latvian higher education institutions (HEIs) for the academic year 2022/2023. Flemish Inter-University Council — Scholarships for Master Programs in Flanders
VLIR-UOS is the secretariat of Flemish universities for development cooperation, with funding by Belgian Development Cooperation. VLIR-UOS announces courses at Belgian Flemish universities and university colleges that are eligible for scholarships in 2022/23. They include 1-year masters’ programs, along with training courses lasting from two weeks to three months. Subject areas include aquaculture, marine science, plant breeding, nematology, water resources, rural development, and others. Eligibility for scholarships extends to applicants from developing countries in Southeast Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, and Latin America. The scholarship amount varies with a maximum support of €58,320. Candidates apply directly to the Flemish universities that offer the programs, requesting scholarship support. National Geographic Society — Buffett Awards for Conservation Leadership in Africa and Latin America 2022
The National Geographic Society, in partnership with the Howard G. Buffett Foundation, welcomes nominations for the 2022 Buffett Awards for Leadership in Conservation. There is one annual award for Africa, and another for Latin America. Inter-American Development Bank — Urban Challenges in Latin America
The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) launches the challenge Cities for All, which seeks to identify urban challenges in Latin American and Caribbean cities. The call focuses on vulnerability and resilience to climate change and natural disasters, among other themes. Three teams will be selected to receive technical assistance of up to $35 thousand, to work on the implementation of a prototype or pilot project. Fondation Ensemble — Sustainable Development and Conservation 2022
Fondation Ensemble supports field projects in sustainable development and conservation. The Foundation’s focus areas are sustainable agriculture, sustainable fishing, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable technologies. The eligible countries for all supported sectors are Ecuador, Peru, Laos, Myanmar. Mozambique is only eligible for sustainable fishing projects, European countries are only eligible for rewilding projects, and Madagascar is only eligible for marine biodiversity conservation and sustainable fishing projects. New America — Learning Sciences Exchange
The Learning Sciences Exchange (LSX) is a two-year fellowship for mid-career professionals in Europe, North America, Latin America, and Africa. The program’s goal is a better application of the insights emerging from the science of learning for children ages 2 to 12. LSX Fellows will work in teams to develop cross-sector projects that activate change in schools and other learning settings. Eligibility for the fellowship program extends to researchers, journalists, education leaders, entrepreneurs, and entertainment producers with a focus on the science of learning. Commission for Environmental Cooperation — Resilient Community Recovery from COVID-19
The Commission for Environmental Cooperation (CEC) seeks grant applications from organizations to support environmental initiatives that help North American communities (including Mexico) implement solutions and strengthen their capacities to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic. The 2021-2023 NAPECA grant cycle will support communities hardest hit by the effects of the pandemic, particularly vulnerable populations and some Indigenous peoples. A total of C$1.25 million in grants are available for non-profit organizations that wish to engage and partner with local and Indigenous communities, academics and non-governmental organizations in Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
