World Academy of Sciences — Science Awards 2020

Each year, the World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) awards nine awards of US$10 thousand each to individual scientists who have been working and living in a developing country for at least 10 years. The disciplinary fields include agricultural sciences, biology, and seven others. TWAS particularly encourages nominations of women scientists, and scientists from scientifically-lagging countries. UNESCO Institute for Water Education — Masters Fellowships

Located in the Netherlands, UNESCO-IHE offers six scholarships for the Water Cooperation and Diplomacy master’s program. The objective of the program is to train future water managers and other professionals to address competition over water. Eligibility extends to existing and future water professionals from Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. The scholarship will cover educational fees, however, successful applicants will be required to fund up to approximately US$5 thousand for living costs and flights. Chinese Academy of Sciences — PhD and Master Fellowships in China 2020

The Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) invites applications for the ANSO Scholarship for Young Talents to pursue Masters and PhD studies in China. Eligible fields of study include agricultural sciences, various fields of biology, and other areas of the natural sciences and engineering. The program will award scholarships to non-Chinese applicants worldwide. The maximum age of applicants is 30 (master) and 35 (PhD). MaRINET2 — Access to Ocean Energy Research Infrastructures

MaRINET2 is working towards unlocking the energy potential of our oceans. The transnational access program offers free-of-charge access to the research and testing facilities of the MaRINET2 network. MaRINET2 provides a contribution of €1000 per week towards travel and subsistence expenses. In 2020 one period of access with a 6-month duration will be organised. Thomson Reuters — Photojournalism Grants

The Yannis Behrakis Photojournalism Grants program offers ten grants of US$8 thousand for photojournalists and students to produce a photo project and develop their visual storytelling skills. The project can be a work-in-progress or a new idea across multiple themes, including environmental justice, climate change, and many others. Applicants must be between the ages of 18-35. Young Sustainable Impact Southeast Asia — Innovation Program 2020

Young Sustainable Impact (YSI) Southeast Asia invites applications for a fully funded Incubation Program which will provide participants with the frameworks, mentorship and resources to start a company. Teams or individually are invited to create lasting solutions to Southeast Asia’s pressing problems in the themes of “Energy Transitions”, “Future of Food & Agriculture”, and “Circular Economy.” Candidates have to be 18-35 years old. Participants receive a fully funded trip to Singapore to participate in a 9-day workshop. Up to US$5 thousand funding is available to promising startups. Nigeria Energy Forum — Africa Energy Innovation Competition 2020

NEF invites applications for the 5th Africa Energy Ideas Competition which aims to accelerate the development of early-stage energy firms across Africa. The competition is open to early-stage energy entrepreneurs from Africa to collaborate with local research institutions or industries. Young professionals between the ages of 18 and 35 years from Africa are invited to participate and nominate a relevant local research institution or organization. Winners will pitch their proposed prototype model at the 2020 Nigeria Energy Forum, in Lagos (Nigeria) and a cash prize of up to $5 thousand. The deadline for proposal submission is 30 January 2020. United Nations University — Post-Doctoral Research Fellowships 2020

The United Nations University offers postdoctoral fellowships to young scholars and policymakers, especially from the developing world. The fellowship program is with the UNU’s Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (UNU-IAS). The research themes include water and urban development; governance for sustainable development; and others. Fellowships are awarded for a period of 24 months. Eisenhower Fellowships — Women’s Leadership Program

Eisenhower Fellowships’ Women’s Leadership Program seeks talented women leaders with a proven track record of achievement. The program will take place in the USA during seven weeks in October-November 2020. Fellows receive an intensive and individually-designed program in their professional field. Applications are invited from individuals ages 32-45 from a wide range of professions in Africa. The application deadline is 24 February 2020. Details here

University of East Anglia — International Development Excellence Scholarships for Brazil Students

The University of East Anglia invites applications for the International Development Excellence Scholarships for the academic year 2020/21 for students from Brazil. Acceptable masters degree subjects include agriculture and rural development, climate change and international development, environment and international development, amongst others. Eligibility extends to Brazilian citizens that have an undergraduate degree from a recognized university. The five scholarships offered range between £7,000 to £8,000 for successful candidates during their master’s studies in the UK. There is no deadline set for the scholarship, however, the deadline for the masters degree application 2020/2021 at East Anglia University is 31 July 2020. More about the scholarship
