The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) launches the Climate Innovation Fund to award innovative ideas that will help improve the conservation and sustainable use of natural resources in Ethiopia. Projects should increase the sustainable use of natural resources, create job opportunities through the use of biodiversity, and help restore degraded landscapes. GIZ will contribute up to €50 thousand worth of investments. GIZ invites start-ups and small businesses in the sectors of technology (app developers), food production, cosmetics, pharmaceutical and timber to apply. Mongabay — WildTech Reporting Fellowship
Mongabay.org offers an internship program which primarily involves writing environmental news stories. The WildTech Fellow will work directly with Mongabay editors to develop their writing skills and publish a series of their stories on Mongabay’s independent news platform. The WildTech Reporting Fellow will receive a US$5 thousand honorarium for the duration of the program. Applications and writing samples have to be submitted by 29 April 2022. SEED — Starter Workshop for Eco-Enterprises in Botswana
SEED offers valuable resources and professional support to expand entrepreneurial ideas while learning from peers during interactive SEED Starter workshops. SEED Starter workshops consist of a team of 2-5 members that bring in a business idea for addressing environmental, social and economic challenges. Successful alumni are invited to apply for a SEED Grant for up to €1,000 which pays for resources required to establish the new enterprise. British Academy — Researchers at Risk Fellowships
The Researchers at Risk Fellowships Program supports individual researchers at risk if they are subject to discrimination, persecution, suffering or violence. Researchers will be able to take up temporary fellowships at UK institutions to continue their research and build long-lasting collaborative links with UK counterparts. The Fellowships will cover the natural sciences, medical sciences, engineering, humanities and social sciences with applications made via UK-based institutions. The awards are expected to run for up to two years. The total amount available is circa £37 thousand per year (£74 thousand over two years). Amani Institute — Social Innovation Management
The Amani Institute offers a post-graduate certificate in social innovation management that emphasizes leadership, communication, entrepreneurship and management, and creativity and problem solving. Fellows will participate in a 3-month Immersion phase in Nairobi (Kenya). Fellows represent a diversity of fields contributing to sustainable development, including themes related to the environment. Amani offers discounted tuition plus a limited number of tuition scholarships (but excluding airfare and housing) in cases of extreme need. The application deadline for scholarships is 06 May 2022. The Global Landscapes Forum seeks professional or amateur photographers who show their perspective on the beauty and richness of the African continent. Photographers from all over the world can apply for the GLF Africa 2022 Photo Competition. The competition offers small cash prizes US$400 (1st place), US$300 (2nd place) and US$200 (popular vote). Copernicus Masters is an international innovation competition that honors the best solutions using earth observation data and applications to solve global challenges. The Smart Farming Challenge, sponsored by BayWa, seeks innovative solutions that use new technologies, ideas and products to support sustainable agriculture and horticulture. BayWa is interested in digital solutions that combine satellite data and Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning to support pasture management, early crop disease identification, and/or yield prediction in horticulture. The winner of the smart farming challenge receives €5 thousand, mentoring, access to field trials and access to BayWa agribusiness and agri-organization networks. European Commission — Youth4Regions Program for Aspiring Journalists
The Youth4Regions Program offers young aspiring journalists the chance to find out what the EU is doing in their region (the EU policy covers topics such as climate change, conservation, and sustainable development). Selected participants will receive mentorship from established journalists in their home country and have the opportunity to take part as a journalist in European Commission press trips to Member States. Accommodation and travel expenses are covered by the European Commission. Applicants must be citizens of a current EU, EU candidate or neighboring country, be between 18 and 30 years old, and have a background in journalism (applications from students are being accepted).
