Copernicus Masters is an international innovation competition that honors the best solutions using earth observation data and applications to solve global challenges. The Multi-Data Challenge, sponsored by Airbus Defense and Space and sobloo, seeks new services and/or applications that provide insight and have impact on areas like Natural Resources Consumption, Agriculture, Forestry, Maritime, Defense & Security and Smart Cities. The winner receives business development support, an Airbus Satellite data voucher for the OneAtlas Platform, and the opportunity to present their solution to potential business partners. All participants have the chance to win an additional €10 thousand if chosen as the overall Copernicus winner. The competition is open to participants worldwide. The Photo Contest is open to professional and non-professional photographers worldwide. Participants are invited to submit real pictures showing their development project and progress in local communities around the world. European Commission — Sustainable Landscape Management in São Tomé and Principe
The European Commission (EC) seeks to optimize the contribution of land to agriculture, food security, climate change mitigation and adaptation, and the preservation of ecosystems in São Tomé and Principe. To achieve this goal, the EC accepts proposals for scalable pilot initiatives that help conciliate different land uses and improve land governance. The overall amount made available is €2.32 million. U.S. Department of State — Support for Environmental Cooperation
The U.S. Department of State announces funding for logistics, meetings coordination, and digital communications to support environmental cooperation between all the U.S. Free Trade Agreement countries. Funding of up to US$197 thousand will be awarded to be used for logistics and meeting coordination support for in-person and virtual meetings, as well as digital communications to promote environmental cooperation programs. European Commission — Global and Environmental Health
The European Commission (EC) aims to strengthen and stimulate the dialogue between civil society organizations in the EU and the ASEAN region in areas of global health, environment challenges, sustainable growth, and fundamental rights. The EC provides financial assistance to local projects and think tanks that mitigate the negative impacts on public health (air, water and soil pollution), research zoonotic diseases, and rethink urban living spaces, among other priorities detailed in the call for proposals. Applicants may request up to €300 thousand per project. Eligibility extends to non-profit organizations and academic institutions established in the European Union, Indonesia, Thailand, New Zealand or the ASEAN region. The Global Environment Facility Small Grants Programme in Malaysia seeks concept notes for community-based projects in biodiversity conservation, climate change adaptation, prevention of land degradation, and reduction of the impact of persistent organic pollutants. StartupXs — COVID-19 Response Fund
StartupXs launches the COVID-19 Response Fund for start-ups and social enterprises with the aim to support early-stage social entrepreneurs to adapt to the pandemic. Support extends to social entrepreneurs whose projects focus on natural resources as well as other categories of the Terra Viva Grants Directory. Participation is open to any start-up or social enterprise worldwide. Priority is given to early-stage start-ups launching innovative products or ideas. One winner will receive US$1000. U.S. Department of State — Environmental and Scientific Partnerships to Reduce Deforestation
The U.S. Department of State aims to reduce supply chain linked-deforestation by improving relevant data and information. The program “Data for Jurisdictional Sourcing: Spurring Jurisdictional Approaches and REDD+ Action” supports the development of technical capacity and systems for identifying, collecting, and managing relevant information and data necessary to avoid further deforestation on a global scale. Funding of US$715 thousand will be made available to be used to increase developing country participation in jurisdictional sourcing approaches. Weeden Foundation — Quick Response Biodiversity Fund
The Quick Response Biodiversity Fund (QRBF) is a rapid response mechanism set up by the Weeden Foundation and partner organizations to secure critical habitat for threatened species. Grants are primarily for land purchases of critical habitat. However, the Fund also considers proposals for land leases and other arrangements that ensure habitat protection. Recent grants range from US$10 thousand to US$50 thousand. Applications are welcome from nonprofit conservation organizations that require immediate funding for critical habitat acquisition. National Geographic Society — Stories of Tropical Rainforests
The National Geographic Society (NatGeo) supports storytelling projects that highlight attempts to mitigate or reverse human impacts on tropical rainforests. Priority for this RFP will be given to projects led by journalists and storytellers from countries within the Amazon River basin, Congo River basin, and rainforests in Southeast Asia. Proposals will be funded from US$5 thousand to US$70 thousand.
