The Global Challenges Research Fund invites applications to grow research capability in the UK to meet the challenges faced by developing countries. Examples of thematic areas include sustainable agriculture; clean air, water, and sanitation; renewable energy and materials; addressing environmental shocks and long-term environmental changes; and others. Investigators may request up to £3 million over two years. Australian Agency for International Development — Development Assistance to Africa
The Direct Aid Program (DAP) supports poverty reduction through more equitable access to the benefits of inclusive and sustainable growth. The Direct Aid Program provides funding for an average of 30 projects per year from Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi, the Republic of Congo and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Researcher Links Workshops bring together early-career researchers from the UK and a partner country to make international connections that can improve the quality of their research. UK and Turkish Institutions can request up to £40 thousand to be used towards workshop implementation. All workshops must be held in 2019. The UK Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) calls for innovation projects that enable research outputs from Research Council-funded research to be taken further and developed into practical (non-commercial) application. Among others, NERC also welcomes projects that are aimed at improving economic growth and welfare in developing countries. U.S. Department of State — Fisheries Management and Governance
The U.S. Bureau of Oceans – Int. Environmental – Scientific (OES) makes cooperative agreements to support fisheries management and governance in U.S. FTA countries. Projects should focus on improving the science-based management of fisheries; monitoring measures to ensure compliance with fisheries regulations; and combating illegal fishing. OES will award one cooperative agreement of up to US$500 thousand or two cooperative agreements of up to US$250 thousand each. The UK Natural Environment Research Council and funding partners invite proposals for the Towards a Sustainable Earth (TaSE) initiative, which aims to improve our understanding of the complex interactions between people and the environment required to make progress in achieving the United Nations Global Goals (Sustainable Development Goals).
