Yale University — ISTF Innovation Prize 2018

The Yale chapter of the International Society of Tropical Foresters will award the ISTF 2018 Innovation Prize to outstanding projects that apply a multidisciplinary approach to address sustainable resource use in the tropics. The Prize will honor projects will have created strategic partnerships to address tropical forest use and conservation. The winner receives a cash prize. Global Social Venture Competition — Competition 2018

The Global Social Venture Competition (GSVC) is a partnership of business schools in the Americas, Europe, Asia, and Africa to provide aspiring entrepreneurs with mentoring, exposure, and funding to support their social ventures. Past winners include plans for water supply, energy micro-credit, agricultural technology, ecological building materials, and other environmental themes. The GSVC will award cash prizes up to US$40 thousand. The deadline for the first entry round in all regions is 04 December 2017. About the Competition

International Network for Government Science Advice — Research in Support of the Sustainable Development Goals

The International Network for Government Science Advice (INGSA) is offering six professional development and research grants for 2018-2019 on the role of scientific evidence and advice in support of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. Grants of up to to €15 thousand per project will support early-to-mid career researchers or policy practitioners on this theme in eligible low- and middle-income countries. Applicants must hold a PhD at time of application, or have at least five years full-time equivalent experience in research or as a public policy professional (e.g. advice, analysis, implementation, evaluation). Association of African Universities — Small Grants for Theses and Dissertations

The AAU is pleased to announce the 2017 session of its Small Grants for Theses and Dissertations. The programme aims to facilitate timely completion of post-graduate research in subjects that include agriculture and food security; environment and climate; and others. Applicants should be post-graduate students enrolled in AAU member institutions. Post-graduate students who are lecturers in AAU member institutions, and female candidates, are especially encouraged to apply. National Cheng Kung University — Gro Bruntland Awards 2018

Taiwan’s Cheng Kung University will host Gro Bruntland Week in in March 2018 to honor Dr. Gro Harlem Brundtland, former Prime Minister of Norway and Director-General of the World Health Organization. Five young female scientists, one from Taiwan and four from developing countries, will be invited to present their research related to public health and sustainable development. TVG Note: This can possibly include research related to food production and nutrition, water supply, or other environmental influences on health. AuthorAID — Online Course in Research Communication

AuthorAID announces a free online course in research communication for early-career researchers in developing countries. The course duration is seven weeks, beginning 03 October. The course aims to cover literature review; research and publication ethics; targeting the right journals; writing and publishing a research paper; and communicating research outside academia. Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation — Doctoral Scholarships 2018

Each year, the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation awards up to fifteen scholarships to Canadian and international doctoral candidates pursuing research related to one of its four founding themes, one of which is “People and their Natural Environment.” This theme includes studies of a social, economic or political nature that lead to the identification, evaluation, or dissemination of sustainable environmental practices. It also includes an interest in environmental security at the global level, and in the link between healthy ecosystems, communities, and individuals. Candidates must be nominated by the Canadian or international institution where they wish to study or are currently studying. Universities can nominate a candidate from their institution who is pursuing doctoral studies at another university. Organic Farming Research Foundation — Research Grants 2018

OFRF offers funding for research on organic farming and food systems and the dissemination of these research results to organic farmers and agricultural and research communities in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Priorities are research on soil health; innovative weed control; issues of emerging insects and diseases; and livestock health.  OFRF particularly encourages farmers, ranchers, graduate students, early-career researchers, veterans, and extension personnel to consider applying for funding. Rise Fund — Under 30 Impact Challenge

The Rise Fund is partnering with Forbes and Echoing Green to sponsor the “Under 30 Impact Challenge.” The challenge is designed to celebrate entrepreneurs around the world, under the age of 30, who are building successful for-profit enterprises that drive positive social and environmental impact. The eligible sectors include energy, food and agriculture, and five others. Applicants must be under age 30, and their businesses must be in a growth phase. There are no restrictions by nationality or residence. The winner will qualify for an investment of US$250 thousand by The Rise Fund, plus an in-kind media grant by Forbes. The submission deadline is 06 September 2017. 

Qatar National Research Fund — Qatar-UK Research Networking

The Qatar National Research Fund, in collaboration with UK partners, is launching the Qatar-UK Research Networking Programme. The joint programme is designed to support the participation of early-career researchers in workshops focusing on building links for future collaboration between Qatar and the UK. Thematic areas include energy and environment, among others. Workshop grants are up to US $50 thousand. The submission deadline is 28 September 2017. About the programme
