The Earth Journalism Network (EJN) offers reporting grants to journalists from island countries in the Asia-Pacific region to support the production of in-depth stories on climate, health and environmental issues, and solutions to address them. Journalists from low- and middle-income island countries will be prioritized. Applications are open to journalists working in any medium (online, print, television, radio) and other expert media practitioners with professional reporting experience and a history of covering ocean issues. Earthwatch — Support for Field-Based Research Projects 2025
Earthwatch supports scientific field projects in topics of ecosystems and biodiversity in several world regions. Applicants to lead these field projects must have a PhD and can be of any nationality. Earthwatch invites projects that have a strong rationale for using non-specialists (volunteers) to aid with data collection, scientific observation, or other research tasks. Annual budgets range between US$20 thousand to US$80 thousand. Program themes include among others collaborative ecological research; ecological restoration; global conservation priorities; ocean ecosystems; and sustainable agriculture and forestry. U.S. Mission to Angola — Self-Help Program
The special self-help program of the U.S. Embassy to Angola supports small, sustainable community-based initiatives that have an immediate and strong impact on the local community. The Embassy expects to support different types of projects: from development projects such as agricultural and aquacultural cooperatives to women’s empowerment and the environment. Grants typically range from US$2.5 thousand to US$10 thousand per project. All applicants must include a significant community contribution. European Commission — Natural Resource Management Malawi
The European Commission (EC) seeks to contribute to sustainable and inclusive transformation of food systems in Malawi. The EC seeks projects that lead to better preservation, restoration and regeneration of the natural resource base and its diverse ecosystems. Hello Tomorrow seeks early-stage startups in Asia Pacific that use advanced technology to answer societal or industrial challenges. The challenge includes one category for startups that focus on energy, food, agriculture & environment, among 10 others. The grand prize is S$30 thousand for the best early-stage startup. Rainforest Journalism Fund — Global Audience Rainforest Journalism Fund
The Global Audience Rainforest Journalism Fund makes grants to journalists reporting for wide-reaching major news media outlets on tropical rainforests in any part of the world. The projects could focus on tropical forests’ role in the overall climate equation and weather patterns, and the consequences for human life and living conditions caused by deforestation. Most awards fall in the range of US$5 thousand to US$15 thousand, but depending on project specifics may be higher. Proposals are welcome on a rolling basis. The program will select 20 organizations from all regions of the country to participate in training and workshops. Eligibility extends to professional news organizations located in Brazil. The AFR100 Initiative seeks to show that restoration can create a prosperous, net-zero-emissions future for Africa. Therefore, the initiative will finance 100 non-profit community organizations and for-profit businesses that are restoring land by planting and growing trees in rural and urban landscapes.
