Newable — Global Young Innovators Program

Newable accepts applications to join the Global Young Innovators Program. Entrepreneurs and young inventors from South Africa and the United Kingdom are invited to generate innovative ideas to help address five challenges in South Africa. The challenges include the categories low-carbon economy and sustainable solutions for urban and rural communities, related to water, sustainable agriculture and fisheries. Participants take part in a training program, receive mentorship, and have the chance to pitch a R200 thousand funding grant. Participants from South Africa have to be between 18 and 30 years old. Regional Studies Association — Awards in Regional Studies

The Regional Studies Association (RSA) covers issues in the fields of climate change, energy, migration, and economic development. RSA makes awards to recent Masters graduates, PhD students, and early-career researchers who made an original and outstanding contribution to the field of regional studies. Award winners receive £500. Grants have no geographical limitation, past award holders come from Egypt, Argentina, China, etc. The deadline for nominations (both self-nominations and third-party nominations) is 30 April 2021. Economic Research Forum — Mitigation and Adaptation to Impact of Climate Change in MENA Region

Economic Research Forum (ERF) supports climate research projects to address topics related to the impact of climate change in the MENA region. Possible research questions and areas of interest are outlined in the call for proposals. Proposals can be cross-country or focused on a single country. The maximum grant is US$8 thousand per project. Eligibility extends to experienced researchers. The deadline for the submission of proposals is 09 January 2021. Link

Frankfurt School of Finance & Management — NDC Financing Fellowship Program

The Frankfurt School of Finance & Management and the African Research Impact Network offer a 12-month bilingual NDC Financing Fellowship Program (NDC – FFP) for policymakers and researchers from francophone Africa. Nationally determined contributions (NDCs) are intended reductions in greenhouse gas emissions and central to achieving the long-term goals of the Paris Agreement. Participants will learn about different ways to finance climate commitments and exchange with policy experts and researchers working in the field of NDC finance. International Climate Initiative — Climate Innovation Leadership Program

EIT Climate-KIC seeks university partners to deliver the Climate Innovation Leadership Program in 2021. The Climate Innovation Leadership Program (CIL) empowers university students to become effective agents of change. CIL will equip participants with knowledge on climate change challenges. Participants will gain the ability to combine climate insights with new entrepreneurial and systems innovation skills to deliver an action and implement projects to combat climate change. SADC Secretariat — Climate Change Policy

The Southern African Development Community (SADC) Secretariat accepts applications in support of evidence-based and results-oriented policy dialogues. Applicants are invited to submit research proposals that strengthen evidence-based result-oriented discussions about climate change and other subjects of interest. Selected projects will receive funding of between US$60 thousand and US$80 thousand each. Eligibility is restricted to non-profit organizations. German Academic Exchange Service — Climate Research Fellowship

ClimapAfrica supports research on climate change and possible solutions. African PhD students are invited to submit postdoctoral climate research projects to one of the following research areas: Agriculture, Climate Science, Veterinary Medicine, Biodiversity, Food Security, Marine Science, Energy, Water Resources, and Forest Sustainability, among others. The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) awards fellowships of max. €10 thousand, plus a monthly allowance to cover research costs for a period of 12 to 18 months. Fellows can apply for additional funding to cover a temporary research stay in Germany (2-6 months) to work on a specific research question. The application deadline is 15 February 2021. German Government — International Climate Initiative Peru

Germany’s International Climate Initiative (IKI) supports projects on climate change mitigation and adaptation, sustainable energy, and biodiversity projects with climate relevance in Peru. The German Government will support projects ranging from €12 million to €15 million. Non-governmental organizations, enterprises, universities and research institutions from Germany and abroad are eligible to apply. Program outlines can be submitted until 07 April 2021. British Council — Collaborations for COP26

The British Council invites applications for creative commissions that bring together art, science and digital technology and offer innovative responses to climate change. The commissions will be part of the cultural program in the build up to the United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) in Glasgow, Scotland in November 2021. The council invites collaborative applications from individuals and organizations in the UK with partners from eligible countries and states overseas. Grantseekers can apply for up to £50 thousand to realize their creative idea. The British Council will support up to 20 projects. The application deadline is 13 December 2020. Click here

European Commission — Citizen Involvement to Address Climate Change

The European Commission (EC) seeks to strengthen the active role of citizens and their direct involvement to address climate change and other human actions harming the environment. The EC funds projects that directly involve citizens and communities in contributing to climate action and protecting the environment, thereby reducing their carbon and environmental footprint. The Commission considers proposals requesting a contribution between €3-5 million. A full list of eligible countries is provided in the call. The submission deadline is 26 January 2021. Click here
