Smithsonian Institution — Fellowships in Invertebrate Zoology

The Smithsonian Department of Invertebrate Zoology invites proposals for the Kenneth Jay Boss Fellowships. Eligibility extends to both US and non-US citizens currently enrolled and engaged in collections-based research in invertebrate zoology (e.g., systematics, phylogeny, biogeography, comparative morphology, species conservation). Awards consist of a stipend of US$750/week, with additional funds available for supplies (US$2,000) and relocation allowance (US$1,000). The fall application deadline is 01 September 2020. Earth Journalism Network — Reporting on Critical Environmental Issues in the Pacific Region

The Earth Journalism Network (EJN) offers grants to journalists based in the Pacific Islands to report on critical issues related to climate change, biodiversity, pollution, and the illegal wildlife trade. Selected journalists will receive an average of US$ 1,500 in funding to cover travel and field reporting costs to produce of in-depth or investigative stories focused on environmental challenges in the region. French Embassy in Cameroon — Environment and Biodiversity Protection in Cameroon

The French Embassy in Cameroon provides support to the Cameroonian civil society organizations with the objective to foster sustainable development projects. Submitted projects should focus on environment and biodiversity protection, e.g. conservation of threatened species, fight against poaching, creation/development of a green industry, integration of indigenous and/or peripheral communities of Protected Areas, and the inclusion of women in environmental protection. (Note: Projects with focus on citizenship and human rights are also being accepted.) The required financing shall range between €10 thousand and €60 thousand for a maximum of 15 months. Fondation SUEZ — Biodiversity and Nature-based Solutions

Fondation SUEZ accepts applications for the Acting for Natural Assets program in search for “Biodiversity and nature-based solutions.” Applicants must demonstrate how their project addresses the issue of conserving biodiversity or restoring ecosystem service. The project is situated in France or the French overseas territories. SUEZ will donate a total amount of €100 thousand that will be divided up between three projects according to their needs. UK Royal Society — Grants for Scientific Meetings

The Royal Society hosts a program of scientific meetings each year with the aim to bring together scientists from around the world to present and discuss new research in all areas of science. Each meeting is organised by leaders in the field, using their expertise to ensure the key topics are covered. The Royal Society contributes to travel and expenses for the meeting and provides logistical support. Proposals are invited from any UK-based researcher. United Nations Environment Programme — Young Champions of the Earth 2020

Young Champions of the Earth supports outstanding environmental initiatives of talented people worldwide between the ages of 18 and 30. The program is a global stage to showcase technological inventions and innovative business models that improve the planet’s health. The program will select seven Young Champions of the Earth every year — one from each of Africa, Asia-Pacific, Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean, North America, and West Asia. Each winner will receive US$15 thousand in seed funding, plus various opportunities for high-profile networking and entrepreneurship training. The deadline for applications is 10 April 2020. European Commission — Environmental and Climate Action in Montenegro

The European Commission seeks to build capacity and awareness and improve the implementation of environmental and climate action policies in Montenegro. The priority areas to be addressed are Awareness; Recycling; Knowledge about Biodiversity; Environmental and Climate change in schools; Inclusion of Civil Society and economic operators in policy dialogue on environment and climate change issues; and Implementation of Environmental policies. Applicants may request between €30 thousand and €90 thousand for project implementation. Ashoka — Act for Biodiversity Challenge

The “Act for Biodiversity Challenge,” supported by Vittel, seeks already-implemented solutions that engage people and organizations across sectors to preserve and restore biodiversity. Solutions can be designed for agriculture, urban environments, and forests. The applicants must be a nonprofit, for-profit, hybrid organization, or have a fiscal sponsor with an already implemented project beyond the idea stage (pilot projects are eligible). Up to four winners will receive a cash prize (a total of CHF 60 thousand will be distributed among the winners). Applications have to be submitted by 03 March 2020. About the challenge

Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund — Biodiversity Conservation in the Tropical Andes (Capacity-Building Program)

The CEPF invites applications for small grants (maximum budget: US$49,950) in support of biodiversity conservation in the Tropical Andes. Civil society organizations are requested to submit Letters of Inquiry (LOI) to implement a capacity-building program for CEPF grantees and key stakeholder groups located in Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru.
