Garden Club of America — Awards in Tropical Botany and Horticulture

The Garden Club of America (GCA) offers several grants, prizes, and fellowships for students enrolled at universities in the USA, including some awards that have a tropical focus. The GCA Awards in Tropical Botany are open to PhD candidates (application deadline is 15 January). The Anne Chatham Fellowship in Medicinal Botany is open to PhD students and recent PhD graduates (deadline is 31 January). The Lou McCandless Marks Scholarship in Tropical Horticulture is restricted to U.S. citizens who are graduate students or advanced undergraduate students (deadline is 01 February). The Youth Consortium — Youth Champion in Nutrition

The Youth Consortium launches a call for applications to identify a champion in Nutrition. The challenge is open to African early-career professionals (under 35 years) who work along the value chains of Agro-Food Systems or expertise in Agriculture, Food and Nutrition Security. The winner receives US$1,000 and a fully funded trip to the main event “Africa Day for Food and Nutrition Security 2022”. The deadline for submitting complete applications is 26 September 2022. ONE International — ONE Africa Award

The ONE Africa Award honors the exceptional work of individuals and organizations based in Africa to help Africa achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The amount of the award is US$100 thousand, which may be split into more than one prize. Eligibility for the award extends to civil society organizations, non-governmental organizations, and other groups based in Africa that can demonstrate commitment and success in advocacy to promote the attainment of one or more of the SDGs. AstraZeneca — Lead2030 Challenge for SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being)

The Young One World Lead2030 Challenge for SDG 3 seeks youth-led projects which tackle the causes of air pollution and focus on the long-term health of young people. Projects should focus on individual behavior change, new technologies, or multi-stakeholder advocacy approaches to change laws/policies. The challenge welcomes solutions from young innovators (18-30 years old). The winner will receive a US$50 thousand project startup grant and 12-months of mentorship from a team of AstraZeneca Young Health Program professionals. The application deadline is 30 November 2022. Government of Egypt — ClimaTech Run

ClimaTech is the global competition for tech-entrepreneurs and artists addressing the most pressing climate challenges. ClimaTech focuses on the use of information and communications technology in developing innovative solutions and new applications for climate action in the areas of energy, agriculture, and water management. The grand prize is US$100 thousand. A special prize will be given to the top two African startups. Participants must be a registered startup operating for over 2 years. MDPI — Water Young Investigator Award 2023

MDPI, a publisher of peer-reviewed, open access journals, invites nominations for the Water 2023 Young Investigator Award. The winner will receive CHF 2000. This prize will be given to two young investigators in recognition of their excellence in the field of all aspects of water, including water science, technology, management, and governance. Candidates must be under 35 years and be nominated by senior researchers. The deadline for nominations is 30 April 2023. More information

United Nations Industrial Development Organisation — Innovative Solutions towards Net-Zero

UNIDO seeks innovative technology solutions that address the adverse effects of climate change and that have the potential to be scaled up, and thus ultimately contribute to inclusive and sustainable economic development. Priority will be given to applications with solutions for: decarbonizing growing urban environments, generating and distributing clean energy, recycling for more climate-cautious consumption, and innovative solutions for sustainable land management. The call is addressed to private sector entities (micro, small, medium, and large companies & startups). Twelve winners will have the opportunity to present their innovative solution to a large audience during the Global Call award ceremony and will benefit from promotional and networking support. Alexander von Humboldt Foundation — Georg Forster Research Award

The Georg Forster Research Award supports the work of accomplished researchers who are expected to continue to develop research-based solutions to specific challenges facing transition and developing countries. Nominees must be nationals of a developing or transition country, excluding the People’s Republic of China and India. The award amount is €60 thousand. Additionally, award winners are invited to conduct a research project of their own choosing in Germany in close collaboration with a specialist colleague. To support the collaboration, the Foundation may grant additional funding of up to €25 thousand. Nominations for the Award must be submitted by an established academic employed by a university or research institution in Germany. The closing date for nominations is 31 October 2022. Find out more

Clean Cooking Alliance — Clean Cooking Women Leaders Award

The Clean Cooking Alliance (CCA) invited applications for the Clean Cooking Women Leaders Award (WLA). The award recognizes women who are advancing clean cooking solutions in emerging markets. Winners will receive a sponsorship to attend the Clean Cooking Forum 2022 in Ghana (October 2022) and a financial sponsorship toward leadership coaching. Enel Grids — Safeguarding Biodiversity from Electric Distribution Assets

Enel Grids seeks collaboration partners to provide an innovative approach that will safeguard biodiversity prior to the installation of electric distribution assets (overhead electrical lines and/or substations). Participants should propose innovative strategies that minimize the effect on biodiversity and promote its protection during the installation of electric infrastructure.
