The Student Solidarity Awards aim to encourage associations of students in institutions of higher education to take initiatives in community-oriented projects. The program is open in countries around the world where the Veolia group is present. The awards are for innovative approaches in themes that include environmental conservation, development aid, and workforce development. Three contest winners will divide €10 thousand in grants. Asian Institute of Technology and UNESCO-IHE — Joint Master’s Degree Programs
The Asian Institute of Technology in Thailand and the UNESCO-IHE Institute for Water Education in the Netherlands offer Joint Degree Master’s programs in “Environmental Technology for Sustainable Development”, “Urban Water Engineering and Management “, and “Agricultural Water Management for Enhanced Land and Water Productivity”. Applicants may seek financial support and scholarships from external sources, for example, the Joint Japan World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program (JJ/WBGSP) or the Orange Knowledge Program (OKP). Melinda Gray Ardia Environmental Foundation — Grants for Environmental Education
The Melinda Gray Ardia Environmental Foundation seeks to contribute to the development, implementation, and/or field testing of environmental curricula. The objective is to empower and encourage students to become involved in solving environmental and social problems. Any organization is eligible to apply — including schools, non-profits, governmental agencies, and others. The Foundation has made grants in several developing countries. Grants are up to US$1,500. Thought for Food — Ambassador Program 2022
The TFF Community seeks passionate young leaders from all over the world for the TFF Ambassador Program. TFF Ambassadors are groups of volunteers worldwide who commit to spread TFF’s mission on a local level around the world. Initiative for Climate Action Transparency — Methodology of Climate Finance
The Initiative for Climate Action Transparency (ICAT) seeks a grantee to develop a methodology that supports the tracking of climate finance at the national level, links climate action to climate finance, and enables the integration of such data in a country’s transparency framework. The grantee will also provide technical support to up to three developing countries in developing a national framework to assess the climate finance needed. KU Leuven — PhD Scholarships for Students from the Global South
KU Leuven is the largest university in Flanders, Belgium. As one part of its cooperation to advance international development, KU Leuven offers 10 PhD scholarships to candidates from developing countries. The university offers sandwich scholarships, which means that 50% of the research takes place at KU Leuven and 50% at the home institution of the scholar, as well as full-time research at KU Leuven (4 years). The scholarships are offered to proposals that deal with a development-relevant research topic, preferably linked to the Sustainable Development Goals. University of California — Animal Law and Policy
The UCLA Animal Law and Policy Program advances animal protection through reliable, impactful research, effective law and policy reform, and training in practical legal tools. The program funds new empirical research in a wide variety of fields (from behavioral economics to law to moral psychology). UCLA anticipates funding approximately five to seven individual projects with a suggested total budget in the range of US$1,000 to US$4,500. Scholars and researchers affiliated with an accredited academic institution of higher learning in the United States may apply. However, UCLA accepts applications from and relating to other countries, as long as the principal investigator is based at a US university. European Commission — Agro-Ecological Approaches in African Agriculture Systems
The European Commission (EC) accepts proposals for the agro-ecological approaches in African agriculture systems grant program. The implementation of agro-ecological approaches will alleviate the pressure that agri-food production places on natural ecosystems, contributing to resilience of agri-food systems and facilitating nature-based responses to current and future agri-food risks and threats. Proposals should build on existing and develop new knowledge, data, and models. Applicants must be established in EU Member States or low- and middle-income countries. French Development Agency — Biodiversity Research Program
The French Development Agency (AFD) launches a call for expressions of interest for research on “Scaling up Nature-based Solutions (NbS) and large-scale ecological restoration: Towards changes in agricultural production, land-use and urban development models”. Each research project may request up to a maximum of €225 thousand in funding. Eligible project proponents are universities and research centers, NGOs, private foundations, international research centers and companies (including individual consultants) which will make their research public. David and Lucile Packard Foundation — Agriculture Livelihoods and Conservation Program
The Agriculture, Livelihoods, and Conservation (ALC) grantmaking strategy aims to support tropical forest communities in strengthening resilience and economic opportunities while protecting tropical forests and biodiversity. Therefore, the Packard Foundation invites proposals for projects that aim to improve the livelihoods of smallholder farmers and forest dependent communities while also conserving forest resources in tropical forest areas. ALC will support new or existing projects, organizations, and coalitions in Brazil, Cambodia, Colombia, Guatemala, Indonesia, Laos, Papua New Guinea, Paraguay, Peru, and the Philippines. The Packard Foundation will provide between US$200 thousand and US$500 thousand of funding to two or more organizations over a period of two years.
