Generation Africa — Prize for Agri-Food Business Venture

Generation Africa seeks applications for the Gogettaz Agripreneur Prize. The prize is intended for entrepreneurial ventures in the agri-food sector founded by young Africans (under 35 years old). The grand prize winners will receive US$50 thousand to grow their businesses. Entrepreneurs must hold a nationality from any of the 54 nations of the African Union. U.S. Embassy Vietnam — YSEALI Micro-Grants Program

The U.S. Embassy Hanoi invites proposals for the 2019 Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) Micro-Grant Program. The program offers grants of up to US$ 1,000 to young individuals (aged 18-35 years) and non-profit groups in Vietnam. Projects in the following themes (relevant to the Terra Viva Grants Directory) will be accepted: environmental protection/climate change; disaster preparedness; food security. U.S. Agency for International Development — Strengthening Capacity in Agriculture, Livelihoods and Environment

SCALE accepts research proposals from organizations that are currently implementing a development or emergency program for an Evidence of Impact study. The request for research proposals needs to focus on interventions at the intersection of agriculture and the management of water resources. SCALE plans to cover the costs of research support (up to US$50 thousand) for one impact study. The request for proposals will close on 31 July 2019. About SCALE

Australian Government — Direct Assistance Program 2019-2020

The Direct Assistance Program (PAD) is a small development program which works directly with communities in developing countries. The current call for proposals is open to local community organizations in Cape Verde, Sao Tome and Principe, and Guinea-Bissau. Projects can request funding of up to €15 thousand. Focus sectors include water and sanitation; environmental protection; economic livelihoods, and food security, among many others. The submission deadline is 04 August 2019. Here

European Development Fund — Development of Coffee and Cocoa Value Chains in Uganda

The European Development Fund aims to contribute to the economic development of coffee and cocoa value chains in Uganda. Priority areas includes supporting smallholders to adopt more climate resilient systems and practices, gender diversity in agriculture, and sustainable and organic coffee/cocoa production. Grants may range from €300 thousand to €600 thousand. Eligibility to apply extends to NGOs established in Uganda and the EU. Deadline for submission of concept notes is 18 August 2019. Find details

BBSRC and NERC — Sustainable Agriculture and Aquaculture

BBSRC and the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) announce a joint call to address challenges related to the sustainable enhancement of agriculture (including crops and livestock) and aquaculture (including finfish and shellfish) in low- and middle-income countries in Sub-Saharan Africa, Southern Asia and South-Eastern Asia regions. BBSRC and NERC have allocated a maximum of up to £3.4 million, to fund multidisciplinary research projects of up to 24 months in duration. Proposals must be led by a principal investigator in the UK. Rapunzel Naturkost and IFOAM — One World Award

Natural health food producer Rapunzel Naturkost and IFOAM – Organics International, the international umbrella organization for organic agriculture, invite nominations for the ‘ONE WORLD AWARD 2020’ (OWA). The award recognizes innovative ideas, projects and people in three areas of sustainability, including conservation of nature and biodiversity, organic farming, contributions to stop climate change (energy conservation or use of renewable energy), and waste management. The winner will receive €45 thousand in prize money. Nominations can be submitted either by individuals or by organizations. Nominations will be accepted until 30 September 2019. Details 

Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa — Capacity Development in Agricultural Research

The Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA) invites applications for the Agricultural Research and Innovation Fellowship for Africa (ARIFA). Qualified African candidates will be trained in ARIFA-affiliated universities and centers of Agricultural Research for Development (AR4D) in affiliated countries abroad. The fellowship covers international air travel, tuition fees and a monthly stipend. Applicants must be under 35 years old and be citizens of one of the following countries: Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Niger, Kenya, Sudan, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda. SEARCA and FSC — Summer School in Agriculture and Food Systems

The Summer School “Transformative Changes in Agriculture and Food Systems”, jointly organized by the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) and the Food Security Center (FSC) of the University of Hohenheim in Germany, will take place in Laguna, Philippines (9-27 September 2019). The FSC will offer up to 16 scholarships for PhD students from Africa, Asia, and Latin America to participate in the course. Kinaya Ventures — Innovation Challenges for African Startups

Kinaya Ventures is an innovation and investment platform with the mission to connect startups, corporations, and investors. The Spring Fellowship is a 4-month accelerator program, designed for African entrepreneurs and early to growth-stage startups in the areas Agtech, Foodtech, AdTech, MarTech, RetailTech. Selected participants will receive a seed grant of US$15 thousand as well as additional support and product perks. The call for applications closed 07 July 2019. About
