International Development Research Centre — Economic Opportunities for Women West Africa

The International Development Research Center (IDRC) seeks to support locally grounded in-depth evaluative and action research to identify and scale successful solutions for achieving women’s empowerment and gender equality in the world of work. Evaluative projects will have a budget of up to CA$500 thousand and a duration of up to 24 months. Action research projects will have a budget of up to CA$500 thousand and a duration of up to 36 months. The call is open to research institutions, think tanks, and non-governmental organizations based in Benin, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Senegal. Television for the Environment — Global Sustainability Awards

Television for the Environment (tve) seeks entries for the Global Sustainability Awards (GSFA). The tve Global Sustainability Film Awards recognizes outstanding films that inspire audiences with real-world solutions for a more sustainable future. Films need to address a relevant sustainable development goal and cogently explain its importance or show a relevant solution. To be eligible for GSFA 2020 all entered films must be made between the period July 2018 and July 2020. The competition is open to any company, organization or individual in any country. U.S. Agency for International Development — Emergency and Development Food and Nutrition Security Activities

The IDEAL Small Grants Program provides funding to existing projects with the aim to identify and address knowledge and capacity gaps in food and nutrition security programs around the world. The Applied Research Award (ARA) consists of Micro Grants funded up to $300 thousand for up to 12 months of implementation. Projects should focus on the development of tools or conduct topic-specific learning events. Applicants may be U.S. and non-U.S. NGOs, for-profit organizations, or institutions of higher education. Agropolis Foundation — Louis Malassis Prize for Agriculture and Food 2021

The Louis Malassis International Scientific Prize for Agriculture and Food recognizes contributions in research, development, and capacity building in the North, South, or the Mediterranean Region to sustainably improve food and agricultural systems while addressing food security and poverty reduction. The Prize will be awarded in three categories: distinguished scientist; promising young scientist; and outstanding career in agricultural development. The winner of each category will be awarded €20 thousand. Applications are open to academic and research organizations (private or public), civil society organizations, and the private sector (e.g., small/medium enterprises). LandSense — Data-driven Solutions for Environmental Monitoring

The LandSense Challenge targets individuals, web-entrepreneurs, start-ups and SMEs with innovative IT solutions for environmental monitoring. The IT solutions need to address one of the three LandSense domains: (1) Urban Landscape Dynamics; (2) Agricultural Land Use; or (3) Forest & Habitat Monitoring. Selected finalists will have the opportunity to pitch their ideas online to an expert jury. The grand prize winner will receive €2,000 and a 1 year subscription to Sentinel Hub Enterprise. The Agropolis Foundation in France seeks partnerships to address the world’s challenges related to food, agriculture, and biodiversity. Energy Generation — Africa Energy Generation Prize

The Africa Energy Generation Prize rewards young Africans who have an innovative  project or idea in the energy, health, or agribusiness sector. Winners will have the chance to enroll in a free 2-year training program at one of three Energy Generation Business Schools and receive capacity development training which will allow them to transform their innovative idea into a viable startup. Applicants must prepare and submit two videos: a presentation video of the candidate (2 minutes) and a video presenting the innovative project (5 minutes). International Fund for Agricultural Development — Indigenous Peoples Awards

The Indigenous Peoples Awards recognize the efforts and the achievements of development projects that successfully engage with indigenous peoples or ethnic minorities living in rural areas. U.S. Embassy Turkmenistan — Exchange Program for Biotechnology Experts

The U.S. Embassy announces an open competition for organizations to submit applications to carry out a program to organize an exchange visit for 5 biotechnology experts from Turkmenistan to the United States for two to three weeks. The Turkmen experts will study the experience of US scientific and educational institutions in developing and applying biotechnologies and then adapt the new biotechnologies to Turkmenistan’s conditions. Awards may range from US$35 thousand to US$55 thousand. Eligibility extends to U.S. non-profit organizations and US educational institutions. Applications are due 21 August 2020. Link

European Union — AgriFI Challenge Fund

The AgriFI Kenya Challenge Fund is a European Union initiative to support smallholder agriculture through the provision of financial support to agri– enterprises. The Fund awards financial support to smallholder farmers in Kenya to practice environmentally sustainable and climate-smart agriculture. Any financial support requested must fall between the minimum amount of €200 thousand and the maximum amount of €750 thousand. The financial support will require 50% match funding from the agri-enterprise. The Fund aims to support projects put forward by small and medium sized agri-enterprises.
