Market Systems and Partnerships (MSP) invites for-profit businesses in Southern Africa to submit applications. Partnerships will leverage South Africa’s advanced economy and financial system to support mutually beneficial agricultural trade and investment in the southern African region, or increase exports to the United States. MSP will issue grants ranging between US$250 thousand to US$1 million to establish partnerships with firms and/or investors. Businesses legally registered to operate in Angola, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, or Zambia are eligible to apply. Swedish Research Council — Starting Grants in Development Research
The Swedish Research Council funds research projects relevant to the fight against poverty and for sustainable development in low income countries. The applicant for a research project grant must be an individual researcher. Research cooperation between scientists in Sweden and scientists in selected low and middle-income countries is encouraged. The maximum amount is SEK 1.5 million per year for a period of four years. Indian National Academy of Sciences — JRD-Tata Fellowships for Visiting Scientists from Developing Countries
India’s National Science Academy administers the JRD-Tata Fellowships to support visiting scientists from the developing world and promote South-South cooperation. The program is open to applicants from developing countries (except India) younger than age 45, and who possess doctorate or masters degrees in science or equivalent degrees in engineering/medicine. Past participants have included several in agriculture, biological sciences, and geo-sciences. The fellowship is for three months and includes transportation, maintenance allowance, accommodation, and contingencies. The application deadlines are 30 April and 31 October of each year. International Fund for Agricultural Development — Rural Youth Employment
The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) invites applications for grants to implement rural youth employment opportunities. The grant program will be implemented in nine countries in Sub-Saharan Africa, for a total amount of up to US$1.2 million. The applicant must ensure a minimum cash contribution of eight per cent of the total proposal cost and an in-kind contribution. The recipient can be a governmental organization, a business development institution, a civil society organization, an academic/research institution or a private sector entity. U.S. African Development Foundation — Agriculture Value Chains and Off-Grid Energy in Benin
USADF, in collaboration with the Government of Benin, invites small and medium-sized enterprises to submit requests for funding and support for the development of their local Beninese businesses. Projects focusing on value chains of corn, cassava, cashew, shea, pineapple, palm oil, rice, peanut and soybean and off-grid energy and craft industries are eligible. Startups can request a total of US$50 thousand for projects in processing, crafts and off-grid energy sectors. Grants range from US$10 thousand to a maximum of US$ 250 thousand. AGCO Agriculture Foundation — Impact-Driven Agricultural Projects
The AGCO Agriculture Foundation (AAF) provides resources to implement projects that promote sustainable climate solutions for farmers and the agricultural sector which benefits economies while also strengthening community development. Climate smart agricultural projects should work towards improving farmer productivity, and as a result, livelihoods, making farms more resilient to climate impacts. Grants between US$20 thousand and US$300 thousand are available. Only non-profit organizations working in farming communities are eligible to apply for grant funding. Siemenpuu Foundation — Biocultural Rights of Indigenous Communities
Siemenpuu Foundation calls for project proposals to support the biocultural rights of indigenous communities and their biocultural life-heritages as adapted to their local environments. The aim is to strengthen indigenous communities’ biocultural diversity and their rights to live in ways which do not threaten or weaken biodiversity and ecosystems. The range of project funding is €30 thousand to €100 thousand for projects with a maximum duration of 24 months. International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development — Small Grants Program
The International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) supports regional transboundary programs to address critical challenges in climate change, food security, water and related disasters, land use, and air quality. The small grants program is to help grow the network of government agencies, universities, and institutions in the HKH region that utilize geospatial tools and information to improve decision-making. SERVIR-HKH expects to award 4-5 grants. Individual grants will not exceed US$30 thousand. Applications will be accepted from institutions based in Bangladesh, Nepal, and Pakistan.
