The Society for Conservation Biology (Marine Section) supports the Conservation Research Small Grants Program. The program provides grants of US$750 to US$1,000 for marine conservation research in areas of acute need, especially for research in the developing world or for organizations with limited access to conservation funding. Applicants must be members of the Society for Conservation Biology and the SCB Marine Section, or join the SCB before applying for grants. The Marine Research Grant (MARG I) provides young and upcoming scientists with funding to turn their ideas into research projects. The MARG-I Research Grant of US$10 thousand is awarded for a duration of 1 year. Early-career scientists and resource managers involved in research in the marine sciences in the Western Indian Ocean region are eligible to apply. The Marine Turtle Conservation Fund (MTCA) accepts proposals for the conservation of priority nesting populations of six of the seven species of marine turtles (Chelonia mydas, Caretta caretta, Dermochelys coriacea, Eretmochelys imbricata, Lepidochelys olivacea, Lepidochelys kempii) throughout their range worldwide. The fund provides financial support for projects that conserve nesting populations and habitat and address other threats to the survival of marine turtles in range countries. Applicants may request between US$25 to US$200 thousand. Applicants can be individuals; government agencies; non-profit organizations; for-profit organizations; or universities. LabexMER is a program of France’s Ministry of Research and Education to address key questions about the global ocean, the deep ocean, and the coastal ocean. LabexMER offers four two-year postdoctoral fellowships for international young scientists to propose research projects in marine sciences to be carried out in one or several LabexMER laboratories in western France. Fellows will receive an annual salary of €37 thousand and support to cover travel expenses, equipment and supplies (€5 thousand per year). The deadline for applications is 30 April 2021. The Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) Marine Accelerator Program (MAP) seeks emerging conservation leaders and influencers that address marine and inland waterway issues in Southeast Asia. Selected youth leaders will receive capacity training and participate in workshops to scale their initiative. Participants will also get a chance to receive up to US$2 thousand in project grants. Eligibility extends to citizens and residents of Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam. Applicants may apply as individuals or represent private entities (including startups and social enterprises), civil society organizations, or academic institutions. The Western Indian Ocean Marine Science Association (WIOMSA) invites expressions of interest from senior experts to prepare a report on different aspects of marine litter in the Western Indian Ocean region. The reports should focus on the status of marine litter and microplastics knowledge in the region, their ecological, human health and economic impacts, and the effectiveness of measures undertaken to address the challenge. The Africa Agri-Food Development Programme (AADP) is a joint initiative between the Irish Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine and the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. AADP seeks to develop partnerships between the Irish Agri-Food Sector and African countries to support sustainable and mutual trade between Ireland and Africa. For this purpose AADP provides funding of up to €250 thousand per company for a full project or €100 thousand for a feasibility study. Only Irish Agri-Food companies are eligible to apply but each applicant must have at least one local partner in Africa. Projects will be supported in Botswana, Cóte d’Ivoire, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Liberia, Namibia, Nigeria, Malawi, Mozambique, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia. USAID seeks to improve human wellbeing and reduce the threats to biodiversity by improving agriculture and fishing practices in coastal and marine environments of Haiti. USAID will provide funding for projects that reduce the underlying threats to coastal and marine resources; enhance the resilience of coastal communities; conserve flora and fauna in select marine protected areas by strengthening governance structures that have the ability to adaptively manage protected areas; and ensure long-term conservation by implementing sustainable natural resource management strategies. The estimated total project funding is US$500 thousand. Eligibility is restricted to non-profit organizations and institutions of higher education based in Haiti. The award recognizes significant achievements and outstanding contributions made by emerging scientists for research in coastal and marine sciences. WIOMSA seeks innovative projects (demonstration and pilot projects) that address modern-day marine sustainability challenges to bridge the gap between marine research and innovation. The goal of the Innovation for Sustainability Grant program is to support the development and testing of concepts and new approaches that address and enhance the understanding of marine and coastal environmental issues. The proposals should be submitted by an institution or a consortium (government departments, research and academic institutions, NGOs, CBOs, or private companies).
