The Bergen Summer Research School offers parallel short courses for PhD students and young researchers on themes of urgent societal problems focusing on the transition to sustainability. The courses will focus on key global challenges, including socio-economic inequality, psychological and social science perspectives on climate change, and the sustainable development of life below water. Stipends to participate in the course are available for qualified individuals who are currently enrolled for studies and carrying out research in a list of eligible developing countries. In its research program “Knowledge for Tomorrow,” the Volkswagen Foundation funds research projects of African scientists in cooperation with partners in Germany. The program supports research across all disciplines. To aid with project proposals and development, the Volkswagen Foundation makes grants for workshops, symposia, and summer schools in Africa to help partners discuss and agree on research priorities and approaches. Partnership for Economic Policy (PEP) launches a new initiative for Strengthening Impact Evaluation Capacities for Development (SIECD) in East and West Africa. This initiative aims to strengthen experimental impact evaluation capacities among experienced researchers and within governments in East and West Africa. PEP invites project teams to submit an expression of interest to pilot a new or existing policy initiative that can be evaluated using experimental evaluation techniques. The Biosciences Fellowship Program provides early to mid-career biological scientists from Jordan, Iraq, Egypt, and Lebanon with the opportunity to spend 6 months working alongside counterpart professionals at foreign universities. Fellowship focus areas include animal, and zoonotic infectious diseases; among others. Applicants must hold at least a Bachelor of Science degree; applicants with a Masters of Science or PhD are preferred. The application deadline is 30 November 2021. Biosciences Fellowship Program

The Clinton Global Initiative University seeks student leaders from around the world who are committed to take action in their community to address a pressing challenge such as environment, climate change, poverty alleviation, or public health. Selected students receive mentorship, access to funding streams, and the opportunity to participate in the 2022 virtual annual meeting hosted by Howard University. The Ashoka Fellowship selects social entrepreneurs with high impact and systems change projects in Mexico, Central American and Caribbean countries. Ashoka seeks projects with innovative strategies, methods, or new approaches to address opportunities and problems. Initiatives need to solve a problem at the root level and have the potential to generate geographically scaled impact. Applications have to be submitted by 16 October 2021. Ashoka Fellowship

PES Latam Alliance supports social entrepreneurs in Latin America to accelerate their impact in the region. The Bridge for Billions program seeks social businesses with innovative solutions working to improve the lives of the most vulnerable. Selected social enterprises will be able to access up to US$50 thousand of seed capital, support through courses and events, training with alliance partners, and a community of entrepreneurs. The applicants must be a registered hybrid or for-profit business and must have been operating (selling product/service) for at least a year. The European Union Rural Development Program aims to improve agricultural production, management of natural resources, and promote sustainable and efficient use of water in Tajikistan. The goal is to enable inclusive growth and resilience to extreme climate conditions in rural communities and to improve livelihood in rural areas. The overall amount made available under this call is €15 million. Eligibility extends to non-profit organizations. Lead applicants not established in Tajikistan must act together with at least two co-applicants established in Tajikistan. The deadline for the submission of concept notes is 20 November 2021. The AIPH World Green City Awards competition recognizes the role of city authorities in promoting and supporting greater inclusion of nature and plants in urban environments. The award is open to city governments and local authorities around the world. The submission must be made by the local authority governing the city – such as the Mayor’s or executive officer’s office. Cities receive an award certificate and a trophy, as well as global recognition and profiling opportunities. All entries will need to be submitted online before 14 March 2022. Green City Awards

The company Famae seeks innovative and concrete solutions to fight against climate change, everywhere in the world, around waste, water, food, habitat, energy and mobility. Solutions should be pragmatic, efficient, durable, and money-saving to make life easier for urban citizens while reducing their environmental footprint. Individuals, teams, businesses, government entities, universities and organizations are eligible to apply. The maximum award is €1 million which may be allocated to a single exceptional project to cover the production of a prototype. Applications will be accepted until 15 October 2021.
