The Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) is a program of the U.S. government to support bright young leaders ages 18-35 in the ASEAN countries. The YSEALI Academic Fellowships offer support to participate in a five-week institute on the campus of a U.S. university or college in one of the following topics: civil engagement; environmental issues; or social entrepreneurship and economic development. The fellowships include leadership development, an educational study tour, local community service activities, and opportunities to engage with peers in the USA. Applications are invited from current undergraduate or graduate students — as well as recent graduates — in Brunei, Burma, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. The Antipode Foundation promotes scientific research, education and makes scholarships in the field of radical geography. The International Workshop Awards are intended to support geographers holding events (including conferences, workshops, seminars, summer schools and action research meetings) that further analyses of geographical issues and engender the development of a new and better society. Successful candidates receive up to £10 thousand (or its equivalent in the awardee’s currency of choice). The AEN secretariat and 3ie offer bursaries to Africans for attending the EVIDENCE 2018 Conference in South Africa. The 2018 conference programme will focus on four areas of priority in Africa, including one on climate resilience. Applicants are required to submit an indication of how they intent to map out the evidence ecosystems in their respective countries, sectors, or areas of work. Applicants can either apply for a full bursary which covers the cost of conference registration, air travel, and accommodation, or a partial bursary which is a waiver of the conference registration fee only. The GHR Foundation invites proposals that address urgent global challenges in radically new ways. The BridgeBuilder Challenge to invite solutions that connect peace, prosperity, and the planet. Submissions should target a specific, pressing, and solvable need across two or more of these themes. The competition is open to non-profit and for-profit organizations established for at least one year. Proposed projects should not be longer than three years. Awards are up to US$500 thousand. The Arab Council for the Social Sciences announces its fifth cycle of postdoctoral fellowships for junior Arab scholars. The program is open to individuals who completed their PhD within the past three years, and who are nationals or residents of countries in the League of Arab States. The fellowship provides for full costs over nine months in the proposed country/countries of residence where the fellow will reside. The thematic focus is open. The U.S. Department of State announces a funding opportunity for activities under the “Protecting Forests, Sourcing Responsibly” project. Projects should focus on actively developing and implementing REDD+ programs to meet climate and conservation goals as well as reduce emissions from deforestation and forest degradation, and improve rural livelihoods in developing countries. Projects may request up to US$740,740 for 36 months. Eligibility is limited to U.S. and foreign non-profit organizations and educational institutions. The Unilever Young Entrepreneurs Awards invite nominations of individuals ages 18 to 35 anywhere in the world who have initiatives, products, or services that address sustainability challenges in four categories. The categories are “farm to table” (sustainable agriculture and food and drink nutrition); opportunities for women; waste management; and water management. The awards will be made to individuals who are putting their ideas into action, i.e., who are already having an impact. Unilever will recognise up to eight winners in 2018, each of whom will be awarded a cash prize in addition to one-to-one mentoring support for a year. Alice and Global Entrepreneurship Network (GEN), along with partners Johnson & Johnson and Dell, invites applications for Pitch with Purpose, a global pitch competition for social enterprises centered around solutions to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Three finalists will be invited to pitch live in front of a panel of judges, funders and media in October 2018. The Abe Fellowship encourages international research in the social sciences and related disciplines on topics of pressing global concern — including climate change, sustainable urbanization, environmental degradation, and other cross-cutting issues that advance global problem solving from a transnational perspective. The fellowship program is open to citizens of Japan and the USA, as well as to nationals of other countries who can demonstrate serious long-term affiliations with research communities in Japan or the USA.
