The Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting and the Thomson Reuters Foundation seek participants for a four-day workshop on reporting land rights in Johannesburg, South Africa (30 July – 2 August 2018). Journalists with outstanding story ideas on property rights will receive training, editorial support and limited funding to help them realize their stories. The program will cover airfare, lodging, and subsistence for journalists from Southern African countries. Eligibility extends to journalists working for domestic media (print, radio, TV, online) anywhere in Southern Africa. Applicants must be fluent in English. The LH Basel calls for applications for visiting fellowships from advanced PHD students and early postdoctoral researchers from sub-Saharan Africa or Switzerland. Proposals from priority countries Cameroon, Ghana, Kenya and Uganda are particularly encouraged. Proposals addressing any of the SDGs in the context of Swiss–sub-Saharan African cooperation, especially in the field of climate change, are welcome. The Woodard & Curran Foundation funds innovative projects that apply or advances technology by addressing water issues relating to climate change. One total grant of US$100 thousand will be awarded over three consecutive years. Eligibility extends to US-based non-profit organizations. The University of Michigan seeks abstracts for presentations, workshops, and applications for financial assistance from students and scholars from lower-income countries for participation in the international conference on Sustainability and Development (9-11 November 2018). The conference themes are Sustainable Development and Indigenous Peoples, Climate Change, Agriculture, Water, Sanitation, and Health, Biodiversity and Conservation, Energy Provision and Access, among others. The Know-how Exchange Program co-finances the transfer of know-how and best practices from EU to non-EU member countries of the Central European Initiative (CEI). Thematic areas in the current call by KEP-Italy include energy, environment, and agriculture and rural development (among others). Proposals are submitted by organizations in CEI member states which are also member states of the European Union for knowledge transfers to non-EU member states of the CEI. The non-EU members of the CEI are Albania, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Serbia, Ukraine. The maximum grant is €40 thousand. The Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) is a program of the U.S. government to support bright young leaders ages 18-35 in the ASEAN countries. The YSEALI Academic Fellowships offer support to participate in a five-week institute on the campus of a U.S. university or college in one of the following topics: civil engagement; environmental issues; or social entrepreneurship and economic development. The fellowships include leadership development, an educational study tour, local community service activities, and opportunities to engage with peers in the USA. Applications are invited from current undergraduate or graduate students — as well as recent graduates — in Brunei, Burma, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. Application deadlines vary by country, Cambodia’s application process is currently open with deadline on 29 May 2018. The Antipode Foundation promotes scientific research, education and makes scholarships in the field of radical geography. The International Workshop Awards are intended to support geographers holding events (including conferences, workshops, seminars, summer schools and action research meetings) that further analyses of geographical issues and engender the development of a new and better society. Successful candidates receive up to £10 thousand (or its equivalent in the awardee’s currency of choice). The AEN secretariat and 3ie offer bursaries to Africans for attending the EVIDENCE 2018 Conference in South Africa. The 2018 conference programme will focus on four areas of priority in Africa, including one on climate resilience. Applicants are required to submit an indication of how they intent to map out the evidence ecosystems in their respective countries, sectors, or areas of work. Applicants can either apply for a full bursary which covers the cost of conference registration, air travel, and accommodation, or a partial bursary which is a waiver of the conference registration fee only. The GHR Foundation invites proposals that address urgent global challenges in radically new ways. The BridgeBuilder Challenge to invite solutions that connect peace, prosperity, and the planet. Submissions should target a specific, pressing, and solvable need across two or more of these themes. The competition is open to non-profit and for-profit organizations established for at least one year. Proposed projects should not be longer than three years. Awards are up to US$500 thousand.
