Local authorities and civil society organizations are invited to submit projects with focus on local development, biodiversity conservation and sustainable use of ecosystem services. Izele is a conservation network website designed for people and organizations working in biodiversity conservation in Africa. The 2020 Izele Small Grant scheme offers three grants of US$1,500, one each for an Eswatini-, Mozambique- and South Africa-based organization contributing to the conservation of biodiversity. The Arctic Goose Joint Venture (AGJV) makes grants for projects and studies that provide and improve scientific information to support and promote effective management, monitoring, and conservation of northern-nesting geese. The AGJV welcomes modest funding requests of up to US$150 thousand for projects of mainly one to three years. Applications are encouraged from nonprofit organizations, educational organizations, governments, and individual companies. The Luc Hoffmann Institute, the African Leadership University’s School of Wildlife Conservation and the WWF launch a global innovation challenge.The principal aim of the “Beyond Tourism in Africa” challenge is to discover new revenue models that do not depend on tourism, but still enable local communities in Africa to derive income from wildlife. Any individual or team with bold ideas from around the world may apply. Up to 15 ideas will be selected. Successful applicants will win a place in the African Leadership University’s 8-month incubation program. During the incubation program, participants may receive a grant of up to US$10 thousand. The African Graduate Student Research Fund makes awards to African nationals pursuing graduate degrees in mammalogy. Projects must be field oriented investigations of natural history, conservation, ecology, systematics, wildlife biology, biogeography, or behavior. The Rapid Response Grants aim at increasing the resilience of protected areas and local communities’ livelihoods facing the risks and difficulties of the global COVID-19 pandemic in African, Caribbean and Pacific countries. Any grant requested under this call for proposals must be no more than € 50 thousand. Funding is intended for enhanced management and governance of protected or conserved areas, recovery of protected and conserved areas, and maintaining the livelihoods of local communities whilst effectively contributing to protected areas management. WWF-US offers Professional Development Grants (PDGs) to help mid-career conservationists pursue non-degree training to upgrade their knowledge and skills. These trainings can include short courses, certificate trainings, or conferences among other training opportunities. Mid-career conservation professionals from select WWF-US priority countries (listed in the announcement) must meet the eligibility criteria to be considered for a grant. The Interdisciplinary Conservation Network (ICN) is a bi-annual workshop that provides a select group of early-career researchers with the opportunity to produce a collaborative piece of research, take part in capacity building activities, and develop global networks with fellow researchers. The ICN 2020-21 workshop structure includes a series of virtual collaborative meetings (September 2020 to April 2021) and a 3-day in-person event (April 2021) in Oxford, UK. ICN will provide accommodation and meals for non-Oxford based attendees. Additionally, up to six total bursaries will be available to support travel expenses for international attendees.
