United Nations University accepts applications for the Biotechnology Fellowship Program to build biotechnology capacities within Latin America and the Caribbean region. Each UNU-BIOLAC fellow is expected to perform specialized research at a laboratory in the LAC region for no more than three months. To perform their research fellowship, each funded fellow will receive a single stipend of US$4000 for travel and living expenses. The European Commission (EC) aims to promote capacity development of local civil society in the Pacific Island Countries. The U.S. Government seeks to support projects that secure economic security of women in agriculture in Tunisia. UK Government — Illegal Wildlife Trade Challenge Fund
The Illegal Wildlife Trade (IWT) Challenge Fund provides funding to innovative and scalable solutions to reduce pressure on wildlife from illegal trade and reduce poverty in developing countries. Proposals must align to one or more of the four project themes: (1) Reducing demand; (2) Ensuring effective legal frameworks; (3) Strengthening law enforcement; and (4) Developing sustainable livelihoods. The IWT Challenge Fund supports projects with different grant sizes depending on each project stage, ranging from £20 thousand to £1.5 million. Ocean Risk and Resilience Action Alliance — Blue Planet Fund
The Ocean Risk and Resilience Action Alliance (ORRAA) invites proposals for financial support to accelerate research and modeling on ocean risk and resilience. The Blue Planet Fund supports developing countries to protect the marine environment and reduce poverty. Pilot grants (US$50 thousand – US$150 thousand) are tailored for organizations to test and pilot innovative solutions. U.S. Department of State — Combating Wildlife Trafficking in Southeast Asia
The U.S. Government seeks to fund projects that build criminal judicial capacity in Southeast Asia. Funds will support work that increases the ability of Southeast Asia to counter wildlife trafficking. The solicitation scope may also include money-laundering, corruption, illegal logging, and other crime areas that aid wildlife trafficking. The U.S. Government anticipates 3-5 awards of US$750 thousand to US$2 million. Eligibility for funding extends to nonprofit NGOs and institutions of higher education in the USA and internationally. University of St. Gallen — Research Partnership Grants 2023
Research Partnership Grants aim to strengthen or initiate scientific exchange between researchers from Swiss and Latin American institutions in all disciplines. These grants are particularly useful to develop joint project proposals to be submitted to large funding agencies in Latin America, Switzerland, and Europe or to combine already existing and independently funded projects. The Leading House invites scholars from Switzerland to propose mono- or interdisciplinary research projects in any Latin American country, involving bilateral or multilateral partnerships. The Belmont Forum welcomes transdisciplinary proposals that address the nexus of Climate, Environment, and Health. Fishbowl Challenge — Competition for Social Entrepreneurs
The Fishbowl Challenge brings college students from around the world together to solve the world’s most complex social and environmental problems. Students from all around the world are invited to apply and join a team of 4 peers to form a Fishbowl Team, come up with an approach to solve an important global issue chosen from 5 focus areas (including Environmental Protection and Renewable Energy) and develop a business plan. The winning team will receive up to US$50 thousand in prize money to develop their ideas further. Undergraduate and graduate (Master’s) university students from all countries are eligible to apply.
