Morris Animal Foundation — Kelp Forest Ecosystems Program

The Morris Animal Foundation announces a new funding opportunity for conservationists interested in applying genetic insight to the protection and management of kelp ecosystems. Mekong Commons — Writing Workshop

Mekong Commons invites applications for our 3-day online writeshop to be held in February 2023. Selected applicants will receive a grant to participate in the online workshop to learn about writing engaging stories, and to plan, research and finish their article about current environmental and development topics in the Mekong Region. University of Delaware — Diamond Challenge for High School Entrepreneurs

The Diamond Challenge seeks social innovations that solve a social problem and make a positive impact on people or the environment. Teams must consist of 2-4 high school students typically between 14-18 years of age and have one adult advisor (21 years of age or older). The winners will receive a prize package worth over US$13 thousand. Finalists receive access to our Diamond Challenge Summit, automatic entry into our summer accelerator and accelerator scholarships. Horticulture Innovation Lab — Horticulture Research Projects South Asia

The Horticulture Innovation Lab seeks applications for South Asia regional horticulture research projects. Projects should conduct research designed to increase fruit and vegetable production efficiency in the horticulture sector of Nepal and/or Bangladesh through research and development. The selected research projects will be funded at US$250 thousand up to US$750 thousand. Africa Enterprise Challenge Fund — Blue Economy in Kenya

Africa Enterprise Challenge Fund (AECF) seeks to contribute to economic empowerment of women enterprises in the Blue Economy in Kenya. The funding window is available for commercial private sector enterprises that economically empower women and young women in the Blue Economy. Total grant funds requested from AECF must be between US$50 thousand and US$400 thousand. The application window will close on 20 January 2023. Link

European Commission — Civil Society Development

The European Commission (EC) aims to promote capacity development of local civil society in Gabon and São Tomé and Príncipe. The action aims to contribute to an inclusive and independent civil society which engages in decision making in the areas of economic development, environment, and food security. Applicants may request up to €300 thousand (Gabon) or €700 thousand (São Tomé and Príncipe) in project funding. Eligibility extends to non-profit organizations established in the European Union, Gabon, or São Tomé and Príncipe. The deadline for submission of concept notes is 31 January 2023. More information

Nordic Environment Finance Corporation — Baltic Sea Action Plan Fund

The Nordic Environment Finance Corporation (NEFCO) announces the applications for Baltic Sea Action Plan (BSAP) Fund. The Baltic Sea Action Plan Fund supports projects that will benefit the ecological well being of the Baltic Sea. The fund finances new initiatives and support activities across the Baltic Sea region including Estonia, Finland, Russia, Sweden, and Belarus. Selected proposals may receive grant financing from €30 thousand to €200 thousand, subject to certain co-financing requirements. Deadline for submitting the proposals is 06 February 2023. BSAP Fund

Milken Institute and Motsepe Foundation — Prize in Green Energy

The Milken-Motsepe Prize in Green Energy is a global competition to reward entrepreneurs and innovators working to address the most pressing and immediate challenges related to access to green, renewable energy. Registration is free and open to anyone, with a US$1 million grand prize available for the winning team, and US$1 million in additional prizes. Teams from anywhere in the world can register and submit designs and business models. An independent panel of expert judges will select semi-finalist teams to receive US$20 thousand each. In the finalist round, teams develop their prototypes and conduct field tests in vulnerable communities in Africa. To compete, green energy designs to be registered by 01 March 2023.
