The Falling Walls Foundation invites nominations and applications for its Global Call to identify the most significant scientific breakthroughs of the year. The program recognizes outstanding research and innovative projects across eight categories: Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Engineering and Technology, Social Sciences and Humanities, Art and Science, Women’s Impact, Science Start-ups, and Science Engagement. Eligible applicants include individual researchers, entrepreneurs, academic institutions, and organizations from any country. Laureates receive international visibility, travel and accommodation for the Falling Walls Science Summit in Berlin, and access to a global network of decision-makers. European Union — COAL Prize 2026
The COAL Prize 2026 invites artists to submit projects dedicated to “The Night.” The program seeks to support contemporary art that addresses ecological issues by defending the night as a common good, a refuge for biodiversity, and a vital rhythm for the regeneration of life. The Prize is open to artists from all over the world. The winner receives €12 thousand to support artwork in progress and benefits from an (optional) residence run by the Museum of Hunting and Nature at the Belval Domaine. Environmental Research and Education Foundation — Research on Solid Waste
The Environmental Research and Education Foundation (EREF) offers research grants on the management of solid wastes. Topics include waste minimization; recycling; waste conversion to energy, biofuels, chemicals, and other products; waste diversion to other uses; and landfills. There are no geographical restrictions on institutions that can apply. Previously awarded grants have ranged from US$15 thousand to over US$500 thousand (with an average grant amount of US$160 thousand). The deadlines for pre-proposals are 01 May and 01 December 2026. Ekhaga Foundation — Ecological Agriculture and Biological Medicine
The Ekhaga Foundation makes research grants in ecological agriculture and biological medicine. The main focus should be on scientific research and primarily applied research. Ekhagastiftelsen wishes primarily to support strategic and innovative projects of a pilot nature, as well as research that is highly newsworthy and that not just confirms previous findings. It is possible to apply for scholarships, but this is usually only granted for research-related projects. There is no maximum amount. Please note that the total amount awarded is usually in the range SEK 10-15 million. Universities, research institutes, etc., from all over the world are invited to apply. British Herpetological Society — Student Grants
The British Herpetological Society (BHS) offers small grants to current students in support of herpetological fieldwork and other research costs. Projects which benefit species of conservation concern are likely to be favored. The scheme is open to students and research projects in any country, but applications from countries where funds are relatively easy to obtain may be at a disadvantage. Bow Seat — Ocean Awareness Contest
Bow Seat invites applications for the Ocean Awareness Contest to engage students in environmental conservation through creative expression. The program encourages participants to explore the connection between human activities and the health of the ocean through categories such as visual art, creative writing, film, interactive and multimedia, and performing arts. Eligible applicants include students worldwide between the ages of 11 and 18.
