Global Landscapes Forum — Biodiversity Digital Conference 2020

The GLF Biodiversity Digital Conference is a two-day digital conference (28-29 October 2020) under the theme ‘One World – One Health’. The conference is a digital networking and learning event that gives participants the opportunity to discuss biodiversity loss, climate change and the emergence of pandemics like COVID-19. Participants are scientists, policymakers, indigenous groups, private sector representatives and organizations. Interested participants who can’t afford to pay the participation fee can apply for a free ticket. Solidarity passes to support participants from developing countries are also available for purchase. European Union — European Researchers’ Night

The European Researchers’ Night is a Europe-wide public and media event for the promotion of research careers. Established researchers have the opportunity to showcase the diversity of science and to stimulate interest in research careers among young people. Legal entities, such as research organizations, companies, public authorities, schools, science museums, foundations or the media from an EU Member State or Associated Country can apply to host an event for researchers’ night. Events and actions that target climate and environmental-related challenges are especially welcome. The European Commission offers funding that covers any expenses linked to the organization of the research outreach event. The deadline for submission of applications is 12 January 2021. UK Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council — Funding for International Workshops

The UK Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) provides funding for international workshops to stimulate joint research cooperations. The workshop can be held overseas or in the UK. Awards are up to £10 thousand. BBSRC invites applications from countries worldwide, but is particularly interested in promoting further links with Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, EU Member States, India, Japan, New Zealand, Taiwan and the USA. Global University Climate Forum — Student Action to Address Climate Change

The Global University Climate Forum brings student activists together to share ideas and act on the global imperative of addressing climate change. The Forum is a one-year program offering a series of workshops that will cover a range of topics pertaining to climate action. Selected teams will be invited to participate in a series of workshops. After the workshops, students will execute their ideas. College and University students from around the world are invited to apply with action-oriented projects. Interdisciplinary Conservation Network — Workshop for Early-Career Researchers

The Interdisciplinary Conservation Network (ICN) is a bi-annual workshop that provides a select group of early-career researchers with the opportunity to produce a collaborative piece of research, take part in capacity building activities, and develop global networks with fellow researchers. The ICN 2020-21 workshop structure includes a series of virtual collaborative meetings (September 2020 to April 2021) and a 3-day in-person event (April 2021) in Oxford, UK. ICN will provide accommodation and meals for non-Oxford based attendees. Additionally, up to six total bursaries will be available to support travel expenses for international attendees. Eligibility extends to early-career researchers wanting to collaborate and network with others in conservation science. The application deadline is 12 August 2020. More information

U.S. Department of State — Support for Environmental Cooperation

The U.S. Department of State announces funding for logistics, meetings coordination, and digital communications to support environmental cooperation between all the U.S. Free Trade Agreement countries. Funding of up to US$197 thousand will be awarded to be used for logistics and meeting coordination support for in-person and virtual meetings, as well as digital communications to promote environmental cooperation programs. Eligibility is limited to U.S. and foreign non-profit organizations and academic institutions, as well as public international organizations. The closing date for applications is 31 July 2020. Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency — Workshop: Climate Change – Mitigation and Adaptation in Eastern and Southern Africa

Sida funds short-term training in selected development topics for participants from developing countries. The international training program “Climate Change – Mitigation and Adaptation” has a strong focus on agriculture and water resources, planning and communication of climate information. The course is designed for individuals who have key positions in organizations related to national, regional or local community planning, and who are actively involved in strategic decision making. Participants have to be nominated by government organizations, private companies or NGOs in Kenya, Sudan, Mozambique, Zambia, or Zimbabwe. The training program consists of three compulsory phases. Phase 1 will take place in Mozambique (March 2021), Phase 2 will take place in Sweden (April 2021), Phase 3 will take place in Eastern and/or Southern Africa (September 2021). Global Landscapes Forum — Digital Conference: Food in the Time of Crises

The 2020 theme of the Global Landscapes Forum (GLF) is “Food and Livelihoods.” On 3-5 June, GLF will host a global digital conference on integrated land use with focus on long-term planetary health and human well-being in times of Covid-19. The conference will illustrate a future for sustainable agriculture and food production systems, including topics like climate action, biodiversity conservation of important ecosystems, forestry, and regenerative agriculture. Young Water Solutions — Young Water Fellowship West Africa

The Young Water Fellowship targets young entrepreneurs. Selected Fellows will be invited to participate in a 10-days training workshop in Ivory Coast. The workshop aims to empower its participants to implement projects addressing water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH), water pollution, and water scarcity. All training costs (flights, transportation, accommodation, meals) are covered by the organization. To be eligible, applicants must be 18 to 30 years old, be fluent in French, intend to stay in Ivory Coast for at least 1.5 years after the training and spend at least 15 hours per week to work on their social business. British Council — Newton Workshop Grants for Researchers

Newton Researcher Links Workshops bring together early-career researchers from the UK and partner countries to allow them to make international connections that can improve the quality of their research. Subject areas for the workshops vary by partner country to include agriculture, climate and environment, sustainable energy, water and sanitation, and several others. The Newton Fund provides funding for international development-relevant research workshops up to £50 thousand. The current call is open for bilateral workshops between the UK with either of China, India, or the Philippines. Proposals must be joint applications, with one coordinator based at a UK institution and one based in a partner country. The application deadline is 12 June 2020.
