The Arab Council for the Social Sciences announces its fifth cycle of postdoctoral fellowships for junior Arab scholars. The program is open to individuals who completed their PhD within the past three years, and who are nationals or residents of countries in the League of Arab States. The fellowship provides for full costs over nine months in the proposed country/countries of residence where the fellow will reside. The thematic focus is open. European Commission — Combat Wildlife Trafficking in Asia
The European Commission calls for concept notes on combatting wildlife trafficking and forest crime in the Greater Mekong Region, Malaysia and China. Submitted projects may focus on strengthening the role of indigenous and local community involvement in combatting wildlife trafficking and forest crime, activities that seek to improve security and livelihoods of targeted groups, and activities that seek to limit demand for Asiatic wildlife and forest products, among others. The overall amount made available under this call is €8 million. Eligibility extends to non-profit organizations established in a member state of the European Union, in an OECD member country, or in Cambodia, China, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam. Alice and Global Entrepreneurship Network (GEN), along with partners Johnson & Johnson and Dell, invites applications for Pitch with Purpose, a global pitch competition for social enterprises centered around solutions to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Three finalists will be invited to pitch live in front of a panel of judges, funders and media in October 2018. The UNU’s Institute for Water, Environment, and Health (UNU-INWEH) partners with The Nature Conservancy to offer an online course in mangrove biology, ecology, assessment, management, and restoration. The course is predominantly aimed at young academics, professionals, managers, and other interested individuals — especially from developing countries. Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund — Conservation in the Eastern Afromontane Biodiversity Hotspot
The CEPF seeks letters of inquiry for small grants (less than US$50 thousand) to conserve biodiversity in the Eastern Afromontane Hotspot. The conservation priorities are stated in the announcement for Strategic Directions 1, 2, and 3 in Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda. Eligibility for funding extends to NGOs, community groups, universities, private enterprises, and other applicants from civil society. The United States Department of State seeks to reduce wildlife trafficking and environmental crimes. Therefore, applications are invited from qualified non-governmental organizations (NGOs), educational institutions, and other non-profit qualified organizations for a grant to implement a program to “Combat Trafficking in High Value Wildlife Products from Big Cats”. For the purposes of this NOFO, “big cats” include the following species and all of their subspecies: cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus), jaguar (Panthera onca), leopard (Panthera pardus), lion (Panthera leo), puma (Puma concolor), snow leopard (Panthera uncia), and tiger (Panthera tigris).
