The Royal Society hosts a program of scientific meetings each year with the aim to bring together scientists from around the world to present and discuss new research in all areas of science. Each meeting is organised by leaders in the field, using their expertise to ensure the key topics are covered. The Royal Society contributes to travel and expenses for the meeting and provides logistical support. Proposals are invited from any UK-based researcher. Ashoka — Act for Biodiversity Challenge
The “Act for Biodiversity Challenge,” supported by Vittel, seeks already-implemented solutions that engage people and organizations across sectors to preserve and restore biodiversity. Solutions can be designed for agriculture, urban environments, and forests. The applicants must be a nonprofit, for-profit, hybrid organization, or have a fiscal sponsor with an already implemented project beyond the idea stage (pilot projects are eligible). Up to four winners will receive a cash prize (a total of CHF 60 thousand will be distributed among the winners). Applications have to be submitted by 03 March 2020. About the challenge
Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund — Biodiversity Conservation in the Tropical Andes (Capacity-Building Program)
The CEPF invites applications for small grants (maximum budget: US$49,950) in support of biodiversity conservation in the Tropical Andes. Civil society organizations are requested to submit Letters of Inquiry (LOI) to implement a capacity-building program for CEPF grantees and key stakeholder groups located in Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru. InterAction — Photo Contest 2020
InterAction encourages photographers from all around the world to submit powerful photos that illustrate innovative, effective, and inspiring efforts in international relief and development. Examples of empowering women, innovative technology, food security and environmental development are within the contest’s theme, though entries are not limited to those areas. The Grand Prize Winner will receive US$1,000 and the winning photo will be showcased at InterAction’s 2020 Forum in April 2020, in Washington, DC (USA). The deadline for submissions is 11 March 2020. U.S. Mission to Slovenia — NGO Small Grants Program
The US Embassy offers small grants for projects that strengthen ties between the United States and Slovenia. Eligible topics for projects are broadly defined and include energy security, entrepreneurship and business development (including women), youth engagement, and environmental preservation and sustainability. Projects may request funding of US$10 thousand to US$70 thousand. Only registered Slovenian NGOs (institutions of higher education and nonprofits) may apply. North American Banding Council — Training for Bird Banders in Latin America
The North American Banding Council (NABC) and Association of Field Ornithologists (AFO) invite applications for small grants that support the development and certification of Latin American and Caribbean bird banders. Grants can be made to groups organizing NABC-based certification sessions and/or NABC-based training sessions that culminate in a certification opportunity. Grants are also available for individuals attending a bird banding training program based on NABC standards and culminating in a certification opportunity. The application deadline is 01 March 2020. European Commission — Defense of Environmental Rights in Peru
The European Commission aims to strengthen environmental protection and mitigation of climate change by protecting environmental human rights and their defenders. This call focuses on (1) Promoting the transition to a low carbon economy in the Peruvian Amazon; and (2) Improving compliance with Environmental Human Rights (DHA) for better environmental governance. Projects with focus on low-carbon transition can apply for funding of between €500 thousand and €805 thousand. Projects with focus on environmental human rights can apply for funding up to €382 thousand. The KEEN Effect — Nature-based Education
The KEEN Effect seeks programs that bring children outside for adventurous recreation, environmental stewardship, and nature-based education. The KEEN Effect Youth program provides funding to grassroots organizations developing youth (age 18 or under) activities in the outdoors worldwide. The program grants up to US$20 thousand per project over a two-year cycle. Eligibility extends to registered non-profit organizations. Applications must be submitted by 31 January 2020. Association of Avian Veterinarians — Support Of Avian Research (SOAR)
The Association of Avian Veterinarians seeks research proposals addressing significant areas of need for research in avian species (atherosclerosis and cardiac disease; avian bornavirus, feather-damaging behavior). Preference will be given to grant submissions relating to avian species traditionally kept as companions, however proposals relating to zoological species will also be considered. Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History — Botany Travel Awards
The Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History invites proposals for Botany Travel Awards. The award supports students or researchers in the study of specimens housed in the U.S. National Herbarium, with preference given to those who work on tropical plants. There are no restrictions on nationality, qualified scholars and professionals from around the world are accepted. About four awards of up to US$3,000 are given to successful applicants.
