InfoNile — University Science Communication Competition for Africa

InfoNile has organized a science communication competition that aims to engage university students in Africa to understand the critical role of conserving swamps and their biodiversity. The competition aims to foster environmental awareness and empower young scientists and conservationists in Africa to take action for swamps. Eligibility extends to teams of 2-3 university students, one from communication or journalism and a science student. Teams can choose any scientific research article about swamps in their country and use it as a case study. Applications have to be submitted by 11 September 2023. Details

Illumina — Agricultural Greater Good Initiative

The Agricultural Greater Good Initiative helps to identify measures that can increase crop yields and improve livestock welfare and productivity to alleviate poverty and hunger in the developing world. The Grand Prize winner will receive up to US$350 thousand of in-kind consumables and/or services. The grant program is open to basic researchers in Agrigenomics at academic, for profit, or nonprofit institutions. The deadline for applications is 30 September 2023. UK Government — Research and Innovation for Development in ASEAN

The UK Government accepts applications for short-term innovative projects that address important development issues in Southeast Asia. Funding will support collaboration between researchers and innovators to address regional priorities such as health, climate adaptation, resilience, energy transition and agriculture to progress development impact. Funding ranges from £10 thousand to £100 thousand. Applications have to be submitted by 08 September 2023. Know more

Amphibian Ark — Conservation Grants 2024

Amphibian Ark offers a wide variety of conservation grants for amphibian research and conservation. Start-up grants are one-time grants of US$5 thousand to help newly-launched projects get started at the very beginning. Start-up grant extensions of US$3 thousand provide continued support for AArk seed or start-up grant projects. Workshop grants of up to US$750 are available to attend conservation-related workshops. Mentorship grants of up to US$1500 are available to organizations which have previously received an AArk seed or start-up grant. Emergency grants offer limited funding to past recipients of AArk grants for emergency situations such as emergency rescue of wild populations facing imminent threat of extinction. Projects should work with species in their range countries, involve range-country biologists, conform to biosecurity standards, and observe other guidelines explained on the website. United Nations Development Programme — Conscious Food Systems Alliance

The Conscious Food Systems Alliance (CoFSA) supports people from across food and agriculture systems to cultivate the inner capacities that activate systemic change and regeneration. The Alliance seeks projects to test and demonstrate how consciousness approaches can strengthen inner capacities that in turn help accelerate the transformation of food systems, and to generate a set of learnings and learning resources. UNDP will fund approximately four pilot interventions of up to US$20 thousand. Proposals can be submitted by applicants in any location. Individuals are not eligible. UK Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council — Standard Research Grant

BBSRC supports a range of activities from research projects to technology development, new infrastructure and equipment, use of equipment and facilities, networks, and summer schools. Case Studies include the themes of agriculture, sustainable energy and climate change. Applicants from industry and academia can request a maximum of £2 million per project. Projects must be based in the UK, however, where a suitable company cannot be found in the UK, an overseas partnership may be possible. Applications must be submitted by 27 September 2023. United States Agency for International Development — Caribbean Marine Biodiversity Activity

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) seeks applications from qualified entities to implement the USAID Caribbean Marine Biodiversity Activity. The activity aims to reduce threats to coastal and marine biodiversity in priority areas in the Caribbean, while also realizing tangible improvements towards climate resilience and human well-being of local communities. Conscious Food Systems Alliance — Conscious Food Incubator

The Conscious Food Systems Alliance (CoFSA) invites applications for the Conscious Food Incubator to support the experimentation of innovative approaches to transform food systems. The aim is to support people from across food and agriculture systems to cultivate the inner capacities that activate systemic change and regeneration. UNDP will fund four pilot interventions of up to US$20 thousand. There is no specific geographic focus or restriction on the location of beneficiaries or applicants. ETH Zurich — Research Partnership Grants Asia

The Research Partnership Grants support research projects with collaborating institutions in China, Japan, South Korea, and ASEAN member states. Researchers may request a total of CHF25 thousand to conduct feasibility studies or pilot projects in order to apply for grants from larger funding agencies. The grant builds on existing collaborations between researchers and scientists affiliated to a Swiss institution. The call is open to all scientific disciplines and fields of research, including social sciences and humanities. ETH Zurich — Research & Seed Grants

ETH for Development (ETH4D) Seed Grants provide a small funding to explore new collaborations or  pilot new applied research projects in low- and lower-middle income countries. Research Challenges enable collaborations on project-​based research between ETH researchers, non-​academic partners and partners to develop effective solutions for poverty reduction.
