The Study/Research Awards are a component of the Fulbright U.S. Student Program. The program is designed for applicants interested in designing their own projects in various areas of study (possibly within the thematic areas of the Terra Viva Grant Directory). Eligibility is limited to U.S. citizens. Program requirements vary by country, so the applicants should familiarize themselves with the program summary for the host country. Each candidate is required to be affiliated with a local institution of higher education, a research/training institute, a think tank, or a registered NGO. Academy of Finland — Development Research
The Academy of Finland and the Finnish Ministry for Foreign Affairs fund problem-oriented and multidisciplinary development research. Themes for the research include food security, biodiversity, environmental health, and natural resources (among others). Projects should be based on problem-based research that is concerned with issues of global development, and that benefit the developing countries. The Indian Department of Science & Technology (DST) calls for proposals for joint research projects between India and Hungary. National Cheng Kung University — Gro Bruntland Awards 2018
Taiwan’s Cheng Kung University will host Gro Bruntland Week in in March 2018 to honor Dr. Gro Harlem Brundtland, former Prime Minister of Norway and Director-General of the World Health Organization. Five young female scientists, one from Taiwan and four from developing countries, will be invited to present their research related to public health and sustainable development. Governments of Austria and India — Scientific Exchange Visits
Austria’s Federal Ministry of Science, Research and Economy (BMWFW) and India’s Department of Science and Technology (DST) invite applications for fully-funded exchange visits to carry out joint research. The call is open to all scientific disciplines and thematic areas — including environmental sciences, agricultural sciences, and veterinary medicine. Wageningen University, in collaboration with Uganda’s National Agricultural Research Organisation, seeks concept notes to strengthen seed sector development in Uganda, with a focus on vegetable seed. The fund will support four innovation projects, with a grant size €25 to €50 thousand, with an additional 50% matching contribution from the grantee. Applications are invited from domestic and foreign companies in the vegetable sector. Applying companies can partner with research institutes, universities, and NGOs. Mennonite Economic Development Associates — Non-Traditional Finance for Agricultural Innovations
MEDA calls for proposals focusing on non-traditional finance to catalyze agricultural innovation by smallholder farmers in East Africa, the Andes region of South America, and South Asia. The call is open to private enterprises (including cooperatives and producer associations), financial institutions, finance-oriented organizations, research institutions, and NGOs. Applicants may be based in the target regions or outside the target regions, but project implementation must be in the target regions.
