The Embassy of Japan in Uganda provides financial assistance to non-profit, development-oriented organizations in support of community development projects in Uganda. Any projects geared towards grassroots assistance are eligible for financing, including water and sanitation, disaster relief, and agricultural development. The grant amount per project is generally under 10 million yen (approx. US$100 thousand). Potential recipients are international or local NGOs, community based organizations, educational institutions and local governments. Asia-Pacific Network for Global Change Research — Call for Proposals 2023
The Asia-Pacific Network for Global Change Research (APN) launches its 2023 call for proposals. The Collaborative Regional Research Programme (CRRP) supports research on physical, biological, and human dimensions of change in the Earth’s systems. The Capacity Development Programme (CAPaBLE) focuses on training, awareness raising, and partnerships. APN lists priority research topics (climate change, disaster risk reduction, smart agriculture, water quality, and invasive species, among others) for each of South Asia, Southeast Asia, East Asia, and Oceania. Applications can be submitted by researchers, academics, and practitioners working at institutions based in APN member countries and approved countries. Commonwealth Scholarship Commission — Commonwealth Shared Scholarships 2024
With funding by the UK’s Department for International Development, the Commonwealth Shared Scholarships are available to citizens of Commonwealth countries for masters studies at UK universities, usually for one year. The participating academic programs include several in subject areas such as environmental science and management, agroforestry, livestock management, remote sensing, disaster management, wetlands science, etc. The CSC lists the participating universities and their eligible courses. Potential applicants must check with the relevant UK university regarding their admission requirements and guidelines for applying. The deadline for scholarship applications is 14 December 2023. Earth Journalism Network — Asia-Pacific Media Grants 2024
The Earth Journalism Network (EJN) seeks applications from journalist networks, media organizations, civil society organizations, or academic institutions throughout the Asia-Pacific region. With this call, the EJN aims to boost the quantity and quality of environmental and climate coverage in the region. The proposed projects can focus on capacity building activities, networking, or be used as a seed grant to build a new environmental media startup or journalist network. Grants will be given to organizations looking to implement projects with the maximum duration of one year. The grant amount can range between US$5 thousand to US$15 thousand. Commonwealth Scholarship Commission — Commonwealth Split-site Scholarships
The Commonwealth Split-site Scholarships enable talented and motivated individuals to gain the knowledge and skills required for sustainable development, and are aimed at students from low- and middle-income countries who could not otherwise afford to study in the UK. Awards are tenable for a 12-month period of study at any approved UK university or higher education institution for a specific program of research. European Commission Erasmus Mundus — International Masters Degree in Environment 2024-2026
MESPOM is a two-year Erasmus Mundus masters course in environmental sciences, policy, and management operated by four European and two North American universities. MESPOM invites applications from all countries. MESPOM aims to prepare students for identifying and implementing solutions to complex environmental sustainability challenges, especially in an international context. Graduates receive MSc degrees from the Central European University, Lund University, and the University of Manchester. The program offers several forms of financial assistance, including tuition fee waivers and living stipends. Echoing Green helps emerging social entrepreneurs around the world with grants of seed capital and technical assistance to support their start-up organizations. Seed funding of up to US$80 thousand over 18 months is offered to for-profit organizations in the form of recoverable grants. Past fellowships include examples in renewable energy, waste management, smallholder farming, climate change, and other societal challenges in developing countries. International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development — Mountain Prize 2023
The International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) seeks nominations for the 2023 Mountain Prize. The Prize is awarded to an individual or organization which has demonstrated outstanding efforts enabling sustainable and resilient mountain development in the Hindu Kush Himalayan region. The prize is currently set at US$ 2,500. UN Global Compact — Young SDG Innovators Program
The Young SDG Innovators Program is an accelerator program for future business leaders and changemakers to develop and drive innovative SDG solutions through new technologies, initiatives, and business models. Participants participate in online and in-person workshops, case studies, company visits and forum discussions. Companies based in Brazil, China, Kenya, Mexico, South Africa, Ukraine, United Kingdom or the United States have the opportunity to collaborate with their Global Compact Local Networks to nominate young professionals for the program.
