The Development Grants for Environmental Journalism supports enabling activities and supporting services for environmental investigative journalism as a whole. The program provides funding to project ideas from organizations and institutions for training and professional development programs. Eligible proposals entail enabling activities and supporting services for environmental investigative journalism in Europe. The total available amount to be distributed among all supported projects will be around €115 thousand. The program is open to legal entities with demonstrable expertise in investigative journalism. International Women’s Media Foundation — Reporting Grants for Women Journalists
The Howard G. Buffett Fund for Women Journalists seeks to promote the work and advance the role of women in the news media across the globe. The average grant size is US$10 thousand. The grant is intended to give women journalists the opportunity to pursue international stories of importance through gender-sensitive coverage of underreported topics. (Note: This may include various focus areas of the Terra Viva Grants Directory, i.e., women in agriculture, or stories about and by female conservationists.) CatchLight — Global Fellowship
The CatchLight Global Fellowship awards visual storytellers who ignite social change through their photography, videography or leadership by leveraging the power of visuals. Proposals should employ and strengthen new methods and potential solutions with an eye towards community activations and sustainability. Benefits of the fellowship include a financial award of US$30 thousand, access to additional future funding through the CatchLight Impact Fund, and paid travel and accommodations for the 2024 CatchLight Visual Storytelling Summit in San Francisco (April 2024). Earth Journalism Network — Media Workshop on Air Pollution
The Earth Journalism Network (EJN) invites journalists from Nairobi, Kenya to join a media workshop on air pollution (February 2024). The two-day workshop will strengthen the knowledge and skills of local journalists to report on air pollution in Nairobi. Applications are open to Kenyan journalists based in Nairobi County from print, online, radio and television media outlets. Meals and local travel allowance will be provided. The Michael Elliott Award for Excellence in African Storytelling honors journalists in Africa who strengthen people’s voices and show the transformational change taking place on the continent. The Earth Journalism Network (EJN) seeks applications from journalist networks, media organizations, civil society organizations, or academic institutions throughout the Asia-Pacific region. With this call, the EJN aims to boost the quantity and quality of environmental and climate coverage in the region. The proposed projects can focus on capacity building activities, networking, or be used as a seed grant to build a new environmental media startup or journalist network. Grants will be given to organizations looking to implement projects with the maximum duration of one year. The grant amount can range between US$5 thousand to US$15 thousand.
